Ground scarcity in Dhaka

Test venues and practice grounds are scarce in Bangladesh. Due to venue scarcity this baby Test nation might have to face lots of unwelcoming situations in near future. BKSP (Bangladesh Sports Training Institute) seems to be the sole option left for the Bangladeshi cricketers to carry on practice sessions in needful hours. This is the only place where they can make a real cricket campaign.A Test playing squad can’t go along with a static situation – they have to be dynamic all through the year, as cricket is no longer a season-based game. The players here (From all ranks) hardly get any opportunity to evaluate their performance after they are done with a series. Why is the situation like that? Because they aren’t getting the facilities they need to go through post-match champing (Which is vital) owing to field scarcity.Surprisingly true that Bangladesh hasn’t fixed up any ground for cricket only. The renowned BNS, which saw seven Tests staged there (All before 1971) before Bangladesh had entered the longer version, is still allotted for both cricket and football. The government is yet to make a decision on it – whether it would be a completely cricket stadium or a football one. The ground condition, after the football league is over, turn out to be horrendous. The ground is made doable for cricket again (For an upcoming series or league), but it costs a lot of money each year. An unaffordable wastage for a poor country like Bangladesh no doubt! The so-called stadiums, Dhanmondi and BUET, are no better than schoolyards. They are deprived of gallery, pavilion and other very essential services needed to run regular cricket. The only exception could be Fotullah Cricket Stadium, which is ten miles away from Dhaka. It is still under construction (Only 20% work has been done), but has valid possibilities to turn up as a furnished cricket venue. BCB should be more concerned over it. Fotullah offers ample space and another cricket academy can be built there. If they can do that some pressures would be off from BKSP.

Ipswich set to bid for Crooks

A major update has emerged for Ipswich, one relating to the “influential” Rotherham midfielder Matt Crooks.

What’s the talk?

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich are on the verge of submitting an offer for Rotherham midfielder Matt Crooks. Paul Cook has identified Crooks as a player who could strengthen this unit at Portman Road and the Blues are now ready to make their move.

The report claims Crooks, who has one year left on his contract at Rotherham, was previously attracting interest from Championship Nottingham Forest. Chris Hughton’s side have since exited the race for his signature, with Ipswich now preparing to swoop in.

Back in November 2020, Rotherham boss Paul Warne hailed Crooks as being “influential” to the Millers in recent seasons and backed him to fight his way out of bad form, amid links with an exit from the club. He told The Star:

“I don’t know how many of my players are absolutely 100 per cent but I think Crooksy sticks out because he was so influential over the last couple of years.

“If (Mohamed) Salah doesn’t play well for Liverpool everyone notices. With Crooksy, he is getting more like the player we want him to be.“Has the transfer rumour and anything else that has gone on in his life affected him? Maybe. But that is just an excuse. It might not have.“Every player has dips and troughs in his form and they play their way out of it. Crooksy is doing a lot to get out the other side of it.” Fans will be buzzing

Ipswich fans will be buzzing by this news. It shows a sign of intent from the club to push on and progress in the transfer window in order to mount a promotion push next season.

Crooks is one of their rivals’ key players and taking him away from Rotherham could weaken one of their competitors whilst improving their own squad in the process.

The 27-year-old produced six goals and three assists in the Championship for Rotherham last season, with Michael Smith the only player who was able to directly contribute to more goals for Paul Warne’s side.

Smith racked up 10 goals and three assists in the second tier, whilst Freddie Lapado equalled Crooks’ nine involvements with nine Championship goals. This shows that Crooks is one of Rotherham’s most dangerous players at the top end of the pitch and losing him could be a big blow to their squad.

Crooks, who is on £1.9k-per-week at Rotherham, could be an excellent addition to Ipswich’s squad. James Norwood was the only Ipswich player who managed more than six goals in League One last season, which suggests that Crooks’ goalscoring could be a major boost to Cook’s options in attack as he was able to score six in a division higher than the third tier.

Therefore, Ipswich fans will be buzzing to hear that the club are serious about pursuing a deal for the Rotherham star.

Sky Sports share Spurs transfer development

Sharing the latest transfer news coming out of Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports (via Football Daily) have now lifted the lid on a development involving Brighton and Hove Albion ace Tariq Lamptey.

The Lowdown: Spurs on the full-back hunt?

Centre-back is said to be Tottenham’s number one priority, but reports have also suggested a new full-back is on the cards.

The Evening Standard recently claimed that Tottenham are interested in promising Lille right-back Zeki Celik, coming as Serge Aurier looks likely to leave summer.

Spurs may need a replacement for the Ivorian if he does manage to part ways, with Sky Sports now sharing a development.

The Latest: Sky Sports share Spurs development…

Indeed, the broadcaster has lifted the lid on a development involving Tottenham and Brighton defender Lamptey.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-2/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It is believed that Spurs have added the exciting 20-year-old to their growing list of targets and are now interested in pursuing him this summer.

“We’ve got some news on Tariq Lamptey, now listen to this,” Sky explained live on air (via Football Daily).

“Spurs interested in signing Brighton’s Lamptey this summer, the England Under-21 right-back, formerly of Chelsea, played 19 games for Brighton, really impressed last season, (but) hasn’t played since December because of injury.

“But Spurs, we understand, are interested so keep an eye out for that one.”

The Verdict: Promising development…

Lamptey showed real promise in spells for the Seagulls last campaign and comes as an exciting prospect, but Spurs may face a fight on their hands to sign him this summer.

Brighton boss Graham Potter is clearly desperate to keep hold of his best players this summer with clubs already knocked back in attempts to sign star defender Ben White.

It is unclear how much they would demand for Lamptey’s signature, but the fact he is young and homegrown could mean Spurs may have to invest significantly.

However, Spurs fans could take promise by the fact new managing director Fabio Paratici is already identifying firm targets early into his tenure.

West Ham likely to make Giroud offer

According to a report by Eurosport, West Ham United and GSB are now likely to sound out Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud with an offer as his contract nears expiry.

The Lowdown: Moyes on the striker hunt

After West Ham manager David Moyes failed to get his hands on a striker in January, much has been made of the Irons finally strengthening that position in the summer window.

Indeed, club insider Claret & Hugh believes that both a new forward and permanent deal for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard are at the very top of Moyes’ priority list.

The Latest: Giroud enters the fray…

The striker saga now appears well underway as Eurosport bring news of West Ham’s interest in Chelsea forward Giroud.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-updates-copy/” title=”West Ham updates (Copy)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Giroud is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer, meaning the Hammers could feasibly sign him on a free deal amid difficult financial circumstances caused by coronavirus.

As such, journalist Dean Jones, writing for the outlet, believes West Ham are now ‘likely’ to sound out the 107-cap international with an offer to swap Stamford Bridge for the London Stadium.

However, the club face stiff competition for Giroud in the form of Italian giants AC Milan – who are believed to already be looking into a possible agreement.

The Verdict: Ideal signing?

The 34-year-old’s haul both domestically and at international level is something to be praised.

Indeed, Giroud has netted 44 goals over his plethora of caps for France and holds a fairly solid goalscoring record in the Premier League with 90 goals in 255 appearances overall.

The towering 6 foot 3 forward has also attracted pretty lofty praise from Gary Lineker, with the pundit lavishing Giroud as ‘the most underrated striker in the game.’ (via Twitter).

However, if Moyes wants a long term solution, Giroud may not be the most credible option given his age – with reported striking targets such as Ivan Toney and Tammy Abraham arguably worth an investment which could pay off long into the future.

Tottenham interested in Yves Bissouma

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham are interested in signing Yves Bissouma from fellow Premier League outfit Brighton.

Spurs eye Bissouma

Spurs are among a number of clubs interested in the 24-year-old, with Arsenal, West Ham and Everton also mentioned as potential suitors.

The Gunners are believed to be confident in getting a deal done for the £15.3m-valued Mali international (Transfermarkt), with the Seagulls demanding £30m for his signature.

Interesting option

Bissouma has been a key player for Brighton this season, playing in all but two of their 34 Premier League matches to date (Transfermarkt). Given the interest from other clubs, it is clear he has plenty of talent and could have a big future in the game.

The former Lille man is an all-round midfielder. For example, he has managed more tackles per game (2.8) than Tottenham enforcer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (2.6) this season, while he has also averaged more dribbles per match (1.5) than Son Heung-Min (1.2).

With him in the middle of the park, Spurs would have a real driving force. If Daniel Levy were able to beat Arsenal to his signature, that would make his signing all the sweeter.

ESPN journalist drops Nagelsmann claim

Writing on Twitter, ESPN reporter Archie Rhind-Tutt has dropped an enticing Julian Nagelsmann claim involving Tottenham Hotspur, with one of his sources explaining that the RB Leipzig manager has always held an ‘active interest’ in the club as a fan.

Nagelsmann has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial position at Spurs and those rumours have only elevated since Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties on Monday.

Indeed, the German, Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag and Graham Potter are on the list of possible new managers at Spurs according to reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold.

ESPN journalist drops enticing Nagelsmann claim

Dropping an update in regards to Nagelsmann, Rhind-Tutt has relayed some enticing information from one of his sources close to the man himself. While the 33-year-old is allegedly a fan of Spurs as his English club, the source also believes that he would be ‘tempted’ to take the job at Tottenham.

“Source close to Julian Nagelsmann tells me that he has previously had ‘an active interest’ in Spurs as his English club (just as a fan I’m told). It would be ‘a perfect match’ in their words,” the journalist explained on Twitter.

“Source thinks Nagelsmann could be tempted by a move to Spurs. Can understand why – Bayern aside, where else could he go?

“The Bayern job would come up for him again. The expectations there for him would be sky high. If Nagelsmann is playing the long game, Spurs makes more sense.”

Transfer Tavern take

This could come as a rather exciting update given that he is currently viewed as one of the most exciting coaching talents in Europe, as well as being described as ‘fearless’ by players who have worked under him.

For this reason, we believe that Nagelsmann should be prioritised above all other managerial candidates given his prestige and glowing reputation across Europe.

Newcastle’s Ritchie shone vs West Ham

Matt Ritchie stole the show for Newcastle United with a standout box-to-box performance to help Steve Bruce’s men defeat West Ham 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers’ visit to St James’ Park offered the Magpies a great chance to cement their survival hopes after beating Burnley last week and relegation rivals Fulham not returning to action until a trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

An own goal from Issa Diop and a tap-in from Joelinton seemed set to give Newcastle three valuable points until a second half comeback saw 10-man West Ham draw level, only for Joe Willock to come off the bench and head a late winner for the home side.

Willock’s third goal since a deadline day move to St James’ Park on loan from Arsenal in February sealed the rewards of an impressive team performance from Newcastle, who reaped the rewards of a lively display from Allan Saint-Maximin throughout the first half.

The Frenchman, making his first start in six games after returning from a groin injury at Burnley, created chances galore with every venture forward into Irons territory, dancing his way between opposing defenders and testing Lukasz Fabianski.

No player was able to turn home one of the 24-year-old’s game-high five key passes before being replaced by Callum Wilson early in the second period, but Saint-Maximin made his presence count by creating the opener.

Saint-Maximin latched onto possession near the halfway line as referee Kevin Friend played advantage after Craig Dawson fouled Joelinton for his second yellow card, accelerating into the box before drilling a low effort goal bound.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-newcastle-news%2c-gossip-and-views” title=”Latest Newcastle news, gossip and views!”]

Fabianski made the initial save but a lack of communication from Diop saw the French centre-half ricochet the ball in-off his Polish teammate.

Joelinton would soon tap in his second goal in three games before West Ham mounted a second half comeback, only to be denied a point when Willock met Ritchie’s sublime cross to send his header into the back of the net.

Ritchie’s delivery capped off a super Saturday for the £3.5m-rated dynamo, who offered Newcastle plenty of width and support at both ends of the field to move up to 15th and open a nine-point lead over the Premier League’s bottom three.

Only Saint-Maximin (five) – who Bruce has previously lauded for being the Toon’s “most creative player” – and Miguel Almiron (three) created more goalscoring chances for Newcastle than Ritchie (two key passes), who additionally delivered a team-high four crosses, per SofaScore.

His willingness to push forward failed to prevent Ritchie from helping to thwart the Champions League-chasing West Ham, with the 31-year-old additionally offering three clearances – only Ciaran Clark (10) and Federico Fernandez (seven) made more for the Magpies.

Bruce’s decision to recall Ritchie to the starting line-up for the first time since January when United hosted Tottenham earlier this month now appears a stroke of genius, with the St James’ Park natives claiming seven of a possible nine points since.

The Toon boss will hope to see that run of form continue after claiming Newcastle’s first back-to-back Premier League wins since December and for only the second time this season, with much of the credit going to Ritchie after his hard-working, steely determination stole the show against West Ham.

Aston Villa: Fans slam Grealish update

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have hit out at the club’s official Twitter post regarding Jack Grealish.

Villa shared Dean Smith’s comments ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool, with the manager confirming Grealish has now suffered a ‘setback that will probably put him back a couple of weeks’.

The 25-year-old has missed the club’s last seven games with a shin injury, and it seems as if he’ll be missing at least a few more following this latest update.

Villa have struggled without the attacking midfielder, picking up eight points from a possible 21 without their talisman.

Grealish also missed out representing the Three Lions during the recent international break, and this latest setback may impact his chances of going to this summer’s European Championships.

Villa fans react

Villa shared Smith’s comments on Grealish on Friday morning and it didn’t take long for hundreds of supporters to have their say.

These fans weren’t impressed, with one labelling the update as ‘ridiculous’.
