A culmination of poor batting, poor wicket and the dreaded Duckworth/Lewis method saw Hampshire Hawks fall to the fourth successive defeat in the Norwick Union League at Derby on Saturday.The Derby saga started on Friday when the team were told not to travel up to the Midland county until word was received as to the fitness of the ground. Hampshire coach Jimmy Cook and local umpire Budd Hill held the inspection and then telephoned the ECB, who after deliberations suggested that Hampshire travelled.So on Saturday, the teams, umpires, spectators all arrived for a prompt start!!!Although conditions following heavy thunderstorms were not ideal, Hampshire Hawks chose to bat but they struggled off the seaming ball on the damp green wicket, and lost 7 wickets for 50 before the first stoppage for rain. Apart from a run out when Crawley drifted down the wicket at the non-strikers end, the wickets belonged to the seamers, Dominic Cork was unplayable and he conceded just 9 runs from his 8 overs, 6 of them wides.Five overs per side were lost when another shower sent the players scurrying for cover. Nic Pothas saved a complete disaster with a polished half century, first sharing a 51 run stand with Shaun Udal and then a more unlikely 42 undefeated atand with Alan Mullally.Much scratching of heads around the ground as the Duckworth/Lewis came into effect, asking Derbyshire Scorpions to score 137 in 40 overs to win, some 6 runs less than Hampshire had scored. Even a phone call to Mr.Duckworth confirmed the scorers calculations as correct.The Scorpions innings owed much to their overseas star Michael diVenuto, as wickets fell at steady intervals. Hampshire used five seamers, with Shaun Udal resigned to a fielding roll, and at 100 for 7 the home side looked in trouble, Skipper Will Kendall bowled out his top bowlers early in an attempt to find a fginal breakthrough, but the Scorpions scraped home with 5 balls remaining, and left the Hawks cursing the D/L method.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to battle their way to a third-placed finish in the Premier League last season following a strong end to the campaign. Ryan Kent asking for a new contract has been coming, says former Rangers defender Michael Ball.

The 24-year-old winger still has two years to run on his current contract. However, according to GiveMeSport, he is keen on a new deal amid interest from Leeds United.

Kent was excellent during the 2020/21 season as he helped Rangers to win their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years and end Celtic’s stranglehold.

The Englishman finished the campaign with 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, while he also averaged more dribbles per league game (1.9) than any other Rangers player bar Joe Aribo (also 1.9, stats via WhoScored).

Indeed, Kent truly showed his worth, and Ball believes the former Liverpool man should be rewarded for it.

“I think we’ve probably seen this coming for a long time,” the ex-Rangers full-back told FFC when asked if Kent deserves a new contract with improved terms.

“It was a big outlay for Rangers at the time to bring to the football club, quite surprising that they had those funds to bring him there, and he’s been a massive hit.

“He’s improved himself, he’s been one of the key players for Rangers and they’ve had a successful, fantastic year.”

Ultimately, considering his contribution to the team this year, Steven Gerrard will surely not want to lose him to Leeds. So handing Kent a new contract may be the best course of action.

What’s the word?

According to a report from Football Insider, the North London side have held three rounds of talks with the current Belgium national team boss and despite claims from elsewhere that Martinez isn’t on Spurs’ radar, FI report that he is in fact one of three men on their shortlist.

There is also a belief that Spurs are confident in appointing their next manager within the next few days, though it remains to be seen what his involvement in this summer’s European Championships would mean for their chances.

The 47-year-old’s enthusiasm and desire to improve the squad have stood out in the recruitment process but question marks remain over his recruitment record.

Bye-bye Kane?

It’s no secret that Daniel Levy has to get his next appointment absolutely spot-on – there is too much at stake after another season of disappointment.

Much of the Lilywhites fanbase have been protesting against the chairman, as well as the club’s owners, the ENIC Group, in recent weeks and that’s largely down to the culmination of several years of underachievement and a lack of ambition.

Now Spurs have been rocked with the bombshell that leading superstar Harry Kane wants out, which would only add to their woes and set them back even further.

Both Manchester clubs and even Chelsea are just three of the teams eyeing up the £150m-rated striker, and all three would be fantastic destinations for him considering they are all competing in a European final this week.

If Levy even wants to stand a chance at keeping him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then he must appoint a manager who could genuinely get them a step closer to achieving their first silverware since 2008.

Martinez is not that man.

His overall record in the Premier League, across seven seasons with Wigan Athletic and Everton, is nothing short of abysmal. He has won only 30% of his 265 matches in charge – by comparison, Jose Mourinho won 52% of his matches in charge of Spurs, and was still sacked.

Even Christian Gross had a better win rate in charge of the club (33%).

Martinez promised so much at Goodison Park, too, but ultimately he failed to deliver and the Merseyside giants only regressed under his tenure – leading to Jonathan Wilson suggesting to Eurosport that there were “systemic” problems that have no signs of being fixed, whilst others have brandished him “stubborn” and “pathetic.”

Even with Romelu Lukaku as his top goalscorer, the Spaniard failed to guide the side past tenth place in his final two years in charge – not even Kane would be able to carry Spurs to much improvement under him, surely?

It’s no wonder he wants to leave to achieve his dreams as he’s already got the club on his back, contributing towards a whopping 54.4% of all their goals scored in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season.

The appointment of Martinez could well push Kane closer to the exit door in what would be a devastating blow to Spurs, both on and off the pitch. Levy must approach this situation with caution and look to avoid the Belgium boss at all costs.

It’s a catastrophic disaster waiting to happen.

Swansea City are considering a move to bring Kyle Joseph to the Liberty Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Wales Online, who claim that the Wigan Athletic forward has emerged as a transfer target for Steve Cooper’s side in the upcoming transfer window.

It is stated that, despite the fact that the Latics have offered the 19-year-old a new deal at the DW Stadium, as his current deal expires at the end of his month, the Scotland U21 international looks set to become available on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

Wales Online also report that a number of other clubs, such as Celtic, Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Preston North End, are also keeping a close eye on the situation of the £90k-rated youngster ahead of a potential summer move.

Cooper must move

Considering just how impressive Joseph was for Wigan this season, it is not surprising that a whole host of clubs are interested in acquiring the forward’s services this summer.

Over his 18 League One appearances for Leam Richardson’s side this term, the 19-year-old scored five goals, registered one assist and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.8 shots and winning 3.6 duels per game.

As a result of these returns, the £300-per-week hitman earned a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.80, ranking him as Wigan’s 10th-best performer in the third tier of English football.

And, when factoring in Joseph’s tender age, these displays for Wigan would appear to indicate that the striker has a very bright future in the game, with this being an opinion that his former teammate Kal Naismith agrees with, with the 29-year-old stating his belief that Joseph will go on to become a “top player” in the future, while the youngster has also been described as already being a “dangerous” talent.

As such, it would be highly advisable for Cooper to do all he can to convince the youngster of a move to Wales this summer, as the 19-year-old could well go on to play a huge role in any success the Swans may have in the future.

However, with a considerable amount of interest from some of the United Kingdom’s biggest clubs, a deal will certainly not be an easy one to get over the line for the 41-year-old Swansea boss.

تشهد العاصمة القطرية الدوحة في الأول من أبريل المقبل سحب القرعة النهائية لكأس العالم قطر 2022، التي تقام منافساتها نهاية العام الجاري، في 8 استادات مونديالية.

ويستضيف مركز الدوحة للمعارض والمؤتمرات مراسم إجراء القرعة بحضور أكثر من 2000 ضيف، لتتعرف بعدها المنتخبات المشاركة في البطولة على المجموعات التي ستتنافس فيها، وتحديد طريق كل فريق نحو النهائي المرتقب في 18 ديسمبر المقبل على أرضية استاد لوسيل، الذي يتسع لثمانين ألف مشجع.

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has told Football FanCast Liverpool only need three additions to challenge at the top end of the Premier League next season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled immensely at times this season.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Newcastle United at the weekend, as Joe Willock scored a last-gasp equaliser to snatch a point for Steve Bruce’s side.

The result has left the club sixth in the Premier League table, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who beat top-four rivals West Ham United on Saturday.

They are 23 points behind leaders Manchester City, a staggering climbdown from last season, when the Reds dropped points in just six games.

The result versus Newcastle means Liverpool have dropped points in 18 games, drawing nine and losing nine.

But Fry believes that the club only have to be active in the transfer window to climb back to where they were last term.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, he said: “I think all Liverpool players have played below the standards they’ve set themselves over the last two years but they’ve had two unbelievable, outstanding years, so they’ve all fallen short of that but I still feel with three or four additions they’ll be challenging for all the things next season.”

Liverpool will not be winning a trophy this season, having been eliminated from the Champions League and the FA Cup, while City won the League Cup over the weekend.

Aston Villa were beaten at the death by Liverpool on Saturday, and the fans were far from happy with the performance of Marvelous Nakamba.

The Villans travelled to Anfield to face a team that had scored just once at home this calendar year (Sky Sports), and they took the lead towards the end of the first 45 minutes through Ollie Watkins, who slotted home calmly past Alisson.

However, Mohamed Salah was on hand after the break to level things up, and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored late on to win the game for his side.

The Villa fans were far from happy with what they saw from Nakamba. Although the Midlands outfit took the lead, it was far from a good display from the Zimbabwe international, who was often guilty of giving the ball away easily. Also, his poor marking contributed to the goal that saw his side pegged back.

Nakamba managed just 31 touches in total, which was actually 18 less than his own goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, who was in fine form as always (Sofascore).
