Onze jogos, nenhum gol e muita decepção. É esperado nesta quinta no Vitória.

Ian Poveda set for Leeds United exit

Leeds United outcast Ian Poveda is set to leave Elland Road in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh update which has emerged on Tuesday morning.

The Lowdown: Poveda unwanted at Leeds

The 21-year-old has become almost surplus to requirements under Marcelo Bielsa, not making a single Premier League start last season.

While Leeds have gone up several gears, Poveda appears to have been left behind, with just one league assist coming his way in the last two years.

The Latest: Summer exit on the cards

According to Football Insider, Poveda looks set for a ‘late-window exit’ from Leeds, having been demoted from the first-team by Bielsa at Thorp Arch.

A Thorp Arch source has told the outlet that the Whites will listen to offers for the youngster in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, with both loan and permanent moves mooted.

The Verdict: Time to move on

Poveda is a talented young player with potential, but he has got stuck at Leeds and it is hard to see a future for him given how limited his playing time has been.

The Englishman is comfortably behind the likes of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford in the attacking pecking order and there is still time for another addition to come in, too.

Poveda will benefit from earning playing time elsewhere and Leeds will no doubt be keen to sell him permanently, in order to generate more funds for transfers.

Artilheiro do time no ano, Vitor fica atrás apenas de Lucas Lima no quesito assistências. O meia tem dez na temporada.

Judd injects passion into Scotland

Tony Judd is nothing if not optimistic and his return to coaching Scotland provides the team with much-needed positive vibes, writes Neil Drysdale

Momentum is a crucial factor in sport and any coach who can generate self-belief and adrenaline deserves the right to name his price. When Tony Judd led Scotland into the National Cricket League in 2003, his sheer enthusiasm was as infectious as the throaty chuckles which peppered his conversations with his players. They loved him and what might have been an embarrassing exposure to superior English county standards immediately turned into a magical mystery tour. His personnel beat Durham, Somerset and Lancashire in the space of 20 days and although these heroics couldn’t be sustained, they demonstrated Judd’s motivational powers. Now, after an unexpected return to Greenock, Judd, 44, is back in the picture and anybody who has watched the Scots recently must welcome the news.Yet, when he departed Glenpark last autumn to take up a position with the Victoria Cricket Association, following seven seasons in Scotland, the odds of him returning were not high. In reality, it is family circumstances which have prompted him to venture afresh to his adopted country. However, within days of his arrival, Pete Steindl was in contact to discuss whether Judd might fancy accepting an assistant’s role with Cricket Scotland, as Ryan Watson’s team prepare for a crucial period of competitive action, in next month’s ODIs against Ireland and New Zealand, the subsequent European Championships and, arguably most important of all, the World Twenty20 qualifying tournament in Belfast at the beginning of August. In anybody’s language, it seems a treacherous schedule for a side so short on confidence. On the pitch, they have suffered a collective hangover since their dismal World Cup campaign last winter, and, apart from enjoying an unexpected series of wins over Lancashire, Scotland have become used to adversity in the Friends Provident Trophy. Off the pitch, there has been dressing-room unrest culminating in the removal of Englishman, Andy Moles and Australian, Peter Drinnen, while the majority of the squad have grown significantly more prickly about media criticism, even when the facts are staring them in the face. Yet none of this mattered to Judd when he trotted into the Greenock clubhouse on Friday. Where other people might have been defensive or bland, he was positively champing at the bit to get started.”I used to coach Pete [Steindl], we both get on very well, and I want to stress that I’m thrilled that he has come to me and asked if I want to be involved again, because this is a great gesture from him, and I am proud to be working with him again,” said Judd, who spearheaded the Scots’ victory in the inaugural Intercontinental Cup in 2004, as well as amassing a brace of SNCL titles and five Scottish Cup successes for his employers at Greenock. “The Saltires have now had nearly 100 games against the counties, and I just don’t believe that the gap is all that big any more and that if any of these teams treat us lightly, they do so at their peril. I will be helping Pete with the boys’ fielding and we will both be spelling out the message that we have a chance to get some ICC ranking points when we take on the Irish and the New Zealanders. As for the latter, I honestly reckon we can offer them a tough contest if we approach it with the right attitude, because, let’s face it, the Black Caps don’t have a bowling attack which is going to blow you away. Alright, they have [Brendon] McCullum, who can knock any attack in the world off their stride, but we shouldn’t be intimidated by them and that is one of the things which impressed me about the Scottish team five years ago, when we came incredibly close to beating Pakistan in Glasgow [the hosts lost by one wicket]. I suppose it boils down to the fact that in one-day cricket, big names are there to be shocked and shot down if you take the fight to them and ignore their reputations.”My own philosophy is always to be positive and never to be happy with damage limitation. If my side is chasing 260, I would far rather they were all out for 190 in the 38th over than scratch and scrape along to 212 for 8 off the full 50 overs. Pete Steindl feels exactly the same, which is why I am confident about the future and how we will work together in a common purpose. It’s exciting.”As for New Zealand, I honestly reckon we can offer them a tough contest if we approach it with the right attitude, because, let’s face it, the Black Caps don’t have a bowling attack which is going to blow you awayTony Judd offers his opinion on New Zealand who Scotland faceThese words embody Judd’s optimistic personality and one need only talk to Saltires stalwart, Paul Hoffman, to discover why he was held in such lofty regard during his earlier tenure. “Tony wears his heart on his sleeve, he doesn’t pull any punches, and he is ultra-competitive, but above all, he never blames a player if they are doing their best and aiming to be adventurous,” said Hoffmann, who retired at the end of 2007, but may be poised to participate in the Twenty20 event in Ireland. “I think Pete and Tony will make a terrific combination, and the more good coaches we have in Scotland, the better. But the one thing about Tony is that he won’t tolerate complacency or laziness, and he is a demanding guy. Sentiment doesn’t come into it, and I think we all share the opinion that it is high time we followed Ireland’s example and beat one of cricket’s big guns.”Ultimately, with Judd in the mix, along with Steindl and Hoffmann as the Scots’ performance analyst, there won’t be any dearth of positive vibes or passion – or Australian twangs – behind the scenes. But if Judd can galvanise the likes of Majid Haq, Fraser Watts and Watson into reproducing their best form, in addition to continuing his work with youngsters such as Richie Berrington and Calum MacLeod, then his influence could be considerable. Laughs have been in scant supply of late, but this Pete’n’Judd show has the potential to raise the spirits of everybody within Scottish cricket.

Dejan Ljubicic reveals Rangers snub

New FC Koln signing Dejan Ljubicic has revealed that he turned down a move to Glasgow Rangers before switching to the Bundesliga this summer.

The Lowdown: Ljubicic joins Koln

The Gers were linked with a move for the 23-year-old last summer when he was still playing for Rapid Vienna in Austria (The Daily Mail).

However, he has ended up making the switch to Koln in Germany on a free transfer instead (fc.de).

The Latest: Ljubicic admits Gers snub

Speaking after his transfer in April, Ljubicic has admitted that he snubbed a move to Ibrox, revealing (via The Daily Record):

“I had offers from several clubs in Germany and I was also in Italy for negotiations and Glasgow Rangers wanted me too.

“I decided on Cologne early on, but I admit I was worried when they had to win their relegation play-offs.

“My family and I decided immediately Cologne was the place for me because I will definitely get a start there too.”

The Verdict: Disappointment

Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson will no doubt be disappointed not to have signed the £2.7m-valued Austria under-21 international (Transfermarkt) – after all, it is never a good feeling when a player turns you down to move elsewhere. Rangers will be aware firsthand of the ability of Ljubicic – he has scored against them in the Europa League in the past few years. His style of play has even been compared to Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong (totalfootballanalysis.com).

Still, the Gers have clearly moved on from that disappointment and looked at other targets, and they have recently announced the signing of John Lundstram (rangers.co.uk). The 27-year-old has Premier League experience as well as plenty of football left ahead of him, and Rangers have recovered rather well from the setback involving Ljubicic.

Celtic gifted Siriki Dembele transfer boost

Ange Postecoglou means business in the transfer market at the moment, with Celtic concluding a number of deals before their first competitive fixture in Europe next week.

They added Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide to their ranks swiftly before concluding moves for Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi.

What’s the word?

Celtic’s recruitment won’t stop there as the Bhoys aim to bring in a few other attacking faces. Gorica winger Kristijan Lovric is fielding interest from the Hoops once again and he could move to Paradise in a £5m deal.

However, the Bhoys have now been presented with an ideal opportunity to sign another long-term target in Peterborough forward Siriki Dembele.

Brother to Karamoko Dembele, the nippy attacker has been the subject of discussion at Celtic for a number of months now. His contract expires in a year’s time and thus he could be available on the cheap.

A fresh report from the Peterborough Telegraph stated that a move to Scotland would be preferred amid links to Rangers, Fulham, West Brom and Nottingham Forest. Dembele spent a part of his childhood in Scotland, so he is already familiar with the surroundings.

Postecoglou needs him

If the Peterborough winger arrives at Parkhead this summer, it may then allow the new Celtic manager to kill two birds with one stone. Mohamed Elyounoussi has returned to Southampton after his successful loan spell in Glasgow, while Odsonne Edouard could still depart, so the Hoops could do with attacking reinforcements.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-news-doig-nketiah-mccann” title= “Read the latest Celtic transfer news!”]

Although a potential move to Leicester City fell through after they preferred RB Salzburg’s Patson Daka, West Ham have been keen on adding the Frenchman to their ranks.

Therefore, with the ability to play out wide or as a centre-forward, Dembele could act as a replacement for the pair of them in the Hoops squad. He started out as a winger but in recent years has been turned into a striker where’s been incredibly ruthless in the final third.

The 24-year-old has beaten the goalkeeper on 25 occasions in his Posh career, 12 of which came during the 2020/21 season.

Peterborough were promoted from League One to the Championship and Dembele was one of the stars of the show. He supplied 12 assists for his teammates and was one of the most successful players in terms of take-ons in the third tier of English football.

The winger completed 135 dribbles at a rate of 3.2 per match, the highest tally in League One by some distance.

With that in mind, Barry Fry’s appraisal (as per Football FanCast) will come as no surprise. He said: “Siriki can get the ball in his own half and with dazzling dribbling ability, he can beat four or five players and score a wonder goal or cross it for somebody else to score.”

Fry added: “He’s very, very exciting. He’s got the best stats outside the [English] Premier League, I think. We’ll try to keep hold of him if we go up, and we’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse! So watch this space.”

Dembele has caught the eye for a while now, and with a switch to Scotland favoured, Postecoglou must turn his attentions to the 24-year-old, who could add a vibrant threat to their frontline.

Steven Gerrard in contention for Spurs job

Another fresh twist has emerged in Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial search this weekend…

What’s the word?

According to Sportitalia journalist Rudy Galetti, a “surprise” name could become new sporting director Fabio Paratici’s latest target, that being Rangers’ title-winning head coach Steven Gerrard.

It’s thought that the 41-year-old’s qualities are becoming more attractive for the north London club’s hierarchy, as talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo continue on.

This would back up recent claims from the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, who suggested that the Liverpool legend is certainly “on their radar.”

Another twist

With Spurs’ hunt for their next manager running into a third month, this latest claim represents another twist in the tale.

Jose Mourinho was sacked in mid-April and it seems like the north London outfit are no closer to finding out who will be in the dugout, a worrying prospect with the squad set to return to pre-season training on July 5.

Several names have been linked and either been ruled out or joined another club, including Julian Nagelsmann, who was widely thought to be Daniel Levy’s first top target before he opted for Bayern Munich.

Spurs were then close to sealing a Premier League title winner in Antonio Conte before talks between the two parties collapsed.

Paulo Fonseca also seemed to be on the verge of being appointed before an 11th-hour blow, while fan backlash stopped the controversial Gennaro Gattuso from being hired.

It seems only a matter of time before Gerrard returns to the English top flight, particularly if he continues to impress at Ibrox, where he has just won Rangers their first Scottish Premiership crown in a decade, ending Celtic’s spell of dominance.

Paratici is said to be ‘pushing hard’ to secure Nuno, according to Football Insider, in a move which would upset much of the fanbase once again as many have voiced their concerns over the Portuguese’s brand of football and the club’s lack of ambition, having been linked with the likes of Conte and Mauricio Pochettino.

If Gerrard is genuinely a contender as these reports suggest, the hunt for Spurs’ next boss may not be done yet in what is an intriguing twist which will likely please the supporters more than Nuno.

Australian run-chase mark of a great team, says Ponting

Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that his side’s ability to keep digging themselves out of trouble was the mark of a great team

Peter Robinson06-Apr-2002Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that his side’s ability to keep digging themselves out of trouble was the mark of a great team.Speaking after Australia had succeeded in the highest run chase in one-day history to beat South Africa by three wickets at St George’s Park on Saturday, Ponting said: “Every time we’ve got ourselves into trouble, we’ve been good enough to get out of it. That’s the mark of a great team.”Australia hauled in South Africa’s 326 for three with five balls to spare to take a 5-0 in the six-match series after a blistering 52 from Adam Gilchrist and contributions of 92 from Ponting and 91 from Darren Lehmann.”It’s the best run chase I’ve been involved with,” said Ponting. “We had an amazing start from Gillie. But I’d be lying if I said I was confident of winning at the start. But the way we approached it was outstanding. We threw caution to the wind and attacked from ball one.”Australia discarded veterans Steve and Mark Waugh for this series, but Ponting said that other players such as Lehmann had stepped up.”Darren was outstanding the way he played today,” said Ponting. “You can tell he’s an experienced player. I think he’s one of the best one-day players in the world.”He noted, however, that Australia had not bowled or fielded particularly well.”We broke another record today – the highest score against us,” he said. “It’s probably good that it happened to us, though. To go for 326 is a bit of a wake-up call for some of the bowlers and the fielders.”Australia’s one-day series here should serve the side well during next year’s World Cup campaign, felt Ponting.”We’ve had a chance to play under all conditions here,” he said. “We’ve played on all the major grounds. This one here will have one of the World Cup semi-finals. It will all hold us in good stead for the World Cup, there’s no doubt about that.”Beaten captain Shaun Pollock said it had been a “pretty awesome effort by them. They came out with all guns blazing. We expected them to come hard at us, and I thought we did pretty well after the first six overs or so.”They’re playing with a lot of confidence at the moment. You need the little breaks to go your way, but it’s not running for us at the moment,” he said.”They’ve got a good unit. It takes a brave team to drop the Waugh brothers, but at the end of the day they were probably right,” said Pollock.
