Sunderland keen on Adeniran

An update has emerged on midfielder Dennis Adeniran, regarding Sunderland’s interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to Yorkshire Live, Sunderland are one of the clubs interested in signing Dennis Adeniran on a free transfer following his exit from Premier League side Everton. Blackpool, Luton, Hull and Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be keen on the midfielder.

The report claims that Sheffield Wednesday have already held talks with the 22-year-old over a move to Hillsborough and Darren Moore’s team are currently leading the race for his signature ahead of the Black Cats as it stands.

He won’t cost a penny

Kristjaan Speakman must swoop for the out-of-contract midfielder this summer to bolster Lee Johnson’s squad. Adeniran was released by Everton earlier this month and will not cost a penny in transfer fees, which means that Sunderland can avoid needing to spend a decent chunk of money to bring him to the club and will only need to worry about his wage demands.

This could free up funds for them to pursue players in other positions to bolster their squad, as they do not have to take any money out of what they are budgeting to spend on transfer fees.

Adeniran could be a good addition to Johnson’s squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign given he was playing at a higher standard earlier this year. Adeniran spent last season on loan at Wycombe in the Championship and Gareth Ainsworth hailed him as an “exciting” talent

He told Wycombe’s official website:

“Dennis is an exciting young talent who has all the attributes to become a really important player for us this season.

“He’s a really energetic, box-to-box midfielder, and comes here eager to learn and develop his game, which we believe he can do just like many other young loanees who’ve joined us early in their careers.”

The £2.4k-per-week beast played 21 matches in the Championship for Wycombe as they narrowly missed out on survival in the final weeks of the campaign. He showed off his combative streak in the second tier as he averaged 2.6 tackles and interceptions per game in midfield, whilst also completing one dribble per game. This shows that he was able to break up opposition attacks and then move the ball in transition, which could make him a valuable asset in Johnson’s midfield in League One.

Therefore, Speakman needs to act swiftly and seal a swoop for the free agent to stop Sheffield Wednesday from winning the race. The Owls may be in front at the minute but that should not stop Sunderland from being able to swoop in, as nothing is over until he puts pen to paper on a deal.

AND in other news, Speakman dealt a blow over 21 y/o with “bright future”, Sunderland fans will be gutted…

Man City fans gutted at Felix Nmecha news

A number of Manchester City fans are far from happy after it was confirmed by Felix Nmecha that he has left the club following the expiration of his contract.

There has been plenty of focus on Felix’s brother Lukas, who enjoyed a positive spell at Anderlecht last term before firing Germany to European Under-21 Championship glory earlier this summer. As of yet, he is still a Man City player, but he has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium (The Sun).

One Nmecha who will definitely no longer be playing his football in Manchester is Felix, as confirmed by the player himself. The 20-year-old has impressed at youth level for the Citizens, scoring 27 goals throughout his time at the club (Transfermarkt), but he has made just three appearances for the senior side and has now moved on to look for more playing time elsewhere.

The news was shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with some raging at director of football Txiki Begiristain for failing to keep hold of Felix Nmecha, who one supporter rated on a talent level similar to Kevin De Bruyne.

Let’s see what these fans had to say about Nmecha leaving

“Txiki is destroying this club from inside. Terrible terrible TD. Also it’s not only Txiki but half the board that are responsible for this mess. We sell our players for peanuts or let them go for free. We buy average players as well. Sack them all. The Spain enclave sucks.”

Pundit expects Aston Villa to go after Tottenham’s Harry Winks

Aston Villa journalist Luke Hatfield of the Express and Star wouldn’t be surprised to see Aston Villa target a move for Harry Winks.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham’s sporting director Fabio Paratici is set to listen offers for the midfielder this summer having lost his place following a tricky season in north London, and The Telegraph have reported he is a target for Villa.

Winks made just a handful of Premier League starts for Spurs, and is likely to be moved on, especially with highly-rated Oliver Skipp expected to be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team set-up.

Dean Smith has already made his intentions clear by signing Emiliano Buendia for a record fee, whilst James Ward-Prowse and Emile Smith-Rowe have already been identified as potential additions.

And Hatfield told The Transfer Tavern that Winks could slot nicely into Villa’s midfield:

“Someone who can fit into a role in midfield, and it’s an area Villa do want to look at.

“Particularly in that holding midfield role, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were interested in a player like him, but we’re yet to see any firm bid or offer, but it does strike you as one of those signings that would suit Villa with Premier League experience.”

Villa are clearly targeting young players that are already in the Premier League.

And whilst last term was a difficult one for Winks, he has proved already himself at the highest level, and would fit the profile that Smith is trying to look for.

Liverpool linked with Houssem Aouar

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar over the coming months as they search for Gini Wijnaldum’s replacement.

What’s the story?

According to ESPN, the Reds have joined fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to secure the 23-year-old’s signature.

The report claims that sources told ESPN that Liverpool have been tracing Aouar’s progress for a while and could be tempted to make an offer this summer, although their relationship with the French outfit was damaged when the deal to sign Nabil Fekir collapsed back in 2018.

Klopp will be buzzing

Aouar has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club for several years now following a string of impressive performances, and Jurgen Klopp may see him as the ideal solution to his midfield conundrum.

Wijnaldum’s decision to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer has left a gaping hole in the Reds’ engine room, but news that the club’s hierarchy are plotting a move for the France international will surely have Klopp buzzing.

The £37.8m-rated beast first caught the eye of English clubs when he put in a standout display against Manchester City in the Champions League back in 2018, earning praise from Pep Guardiola.

“Houssem Aouar is a very good player. He is incredible,” said the Spanish tactician.

“We talk a lot about (Tanguy) Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.”

After scoring 32 goals and providing a further 31 assists in 170 appearances for Lyon, Aouar may feel that it’s time to take the next step in his career ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Known predominantly for his dribbling skills and creativity, the youngster could offer something different to this Liverpool squad and has the potential to propel them back to the summit of English football.

The Anfield faithful could well be urging director of football Michael Edwards to seal this deal, although he may have to move quickly in order to secure his man given the abundant competition for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Celtic eyeing Boupendza

An update has emerged regarding Celtic’s pursuit of Gabonese forward Aaron Boupendza…

What’s the talk?

According to Media Time, as relayed by TBRF, the Hoops are prioritising the signing of Hatayspor striker Boupendza as they attempt to bolster their strikeforce and provide some competition to Odsonne Edouard this summer.

The report claims that the Turkish club value him at around €12m (£10.2m) and it remains to be seen whether or not Celtic are willing to splash their club-record transfer fee on him.

Fans will be over the moon

Celtic fans will be over the moon with this news as Boupendza could be a terrific signing for the club and increase their chances of winning the title back from their arch-rivals Rangers next term. He has been prolific in Turkey and is capable of playing in a variety of positions at the top end of the pitch, whether that be down the middle or on either flank.

He has been nicknamed the “panther” in Turkey for the way he poaches goals, whilst he has also been compared to Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette.

In a player analysis article centred around Boupendza, Breaking the Lines provided the following on what he brings to the pitch. “The Hatay forward has excellent close control and touch, he often comes short to utilize these skills, soaking in defenders, then with a dynamic touch or spin beating his man or passing it to a teammate, defeating the trap.

“His close control was best exemplified in his goal against Beşiktaş, where his control and tricky first touch gave him enough space to bury the ball into the bottom right corner from just inside the box.”

The 24-year-old number nine plundered 22 goals in 25 starts in the Super Lig last season, showing that he can score at an impressive rate at a good standard of football. This suggests that he could arrive at Celtic Park and set the Premiership on fire with his goals.

Therefore, supporters will be buzzing if the club can bring him in before the end of the window. He is young, talented, exciting and could be exactly what Postecoglou needs to bolster his attack and fight for the title next season.

If the Gabonese forward can translate his goals from Turkey over to Scotland then they could have a real talent on their hands, someone capable of lifting them back to dominance.

AND in other news, Postecoglou may be on the verge of his first Celtic howler, fans would be furious…

CPFC: Fans react to Mamadou Sakho exit

Crystal Palace confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that defender Mamadou Sakho has left the club after his Selhurst Park deal expired at the beginning of the month.

The centre-back has now returned to his native country by joining Ligue 1 side Montpellier, with a number of Eagles fans reacting to Palace’s post regarding the Frenchman on Twitter.

Sakho spent four-and-a-half years with Palace after making his loan spell from Liverpool permanent in the summer of 2017 for £25.38m.

The 31-year-old made 75 appearances for the Eagles, mainly under Roy Hodgson, however, only six came last season due to injury.

Sakho was one of 11 senior Palace players out of contract at the beginning of the month and has now signed a three-year deal with Montpellier on a free transfer.

Palace fans react

Palace announced Sakho’s departure on their official Twitter page. This is what these Eagles supporters had to say in reply, with on describing the news as ‘funny’.

Trabzonspor bid for Cheikhou Kouyate

Crystal Palace have reportedly received an offer from Süper Lig outfit Trabzonspor for their versatile midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

What’s the story?

According to Turkish news outlet Sabah (as reported by the Evening Standard), talks are thought to be underway over a move that could be worth around £4m.

The report states that Trabzonspor want a player who can operate in central midfield and defence, meaning Kouyate fits the bill perfectly following last season’s exploits.

Patrick Vieira will be fuming

News that the Palace hierarchy are thought to be negotiating Kouyate’s potential exit will surely leave new manager Patrick Vieira fuming.

The Senegal international was one of the south London outfit’s standout performers last season, filling in at centre-back on several occasions due to his teammates picking up a string of injury issues – as per Whoscored, he finished as the joint-ninth best player in terms of average match rating for Palace.

And the experienced 31-year-old could play a crucial part for Palace next term as well.

Following the departures of Gary Cahill, Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann and James McCarthy following the expiration of their contract last month, the Eagles’ spine is looking extremely threadbare.

Kouyate has showcased his ability and potential to play in multiple positions, providing Vieira with cover and competitions through the centre of the pitch.

Since arriving at Selhurst Park back in August 2018, the £65k-per-week monster has established himself as a regular in the capital club’s starting XI.

Despite only bagging two goals and providing four assists in 110 appearances for Palace, Kouyate has made a significant contribution to their success, and chairman Steve Parish must keep hold of him this summer.

Letting an experienced, versatile, proven Premier League performer depart when Vieira is set to oversee a potentially tricky transitional period could prove to be a disastrous decision.

The club’s chief must be careful not to change the playing squad too quickly over the next couple of years, and Kouyate’s presence would add some stability and familiarity to a fast-changing environment.

Celtic: Ekrem Konur makes Joe Hart claim

Joe Hart’s move from Tottenham to Celtic will be completed in the next few days, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

Hart emerged as a target for Celtic on Wednesday, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano sharing the news regarding the ‘keeper on Twitter.

Romano claimed that talks have been opened between the Hoops and Spurs for Hart, who is into the final 12 months of his north London deal.

The 34-year-old has made just 10 senior appearances for Tottenham, and it seems as if Ange Postecoglou is keen to bring the Englishman to Parkhead.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-11/” title=”Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Konur’s tweet

Konur, who was one of the first to share Celtic’s interest in Aurelio Buta, posted on Celtic’s swoop for Hart on Thursday morning.

He suggested that the Hoops don’t want to pay Spurs for Hart and believes a deal ‘will be completed’ over the coming days.

“Celtic are in talks with Tottenham about Joe Hart. Celtic do not want to pay Tottenham for Joe. The Transfer will be completed in a few days.”

The Verdict: A gamble?

Hart is thought to be on £30,000-a-week with Tottenham, so although the Hoops may not have to pay a fee for the goalkeeper, they may still have to make him their top earner.

It could be a risk for an ageing shot-stopper who has made just 34 senior appearances over the past three seasons.

Only time will tell if it is a good move, but by the looks of it, a deal could go through before the end of the month, so we will soon find out.

Newcastle haven’t submitted accounts

Noel Whelan has given his reaction to the news that Newcastle United are yet to submit their accounts.

The Lowdown: Accounts not submitted

As per Companies House, the St James’ Park club have not yet submitted their accounts, which were due on July 31st.

They are the last club in the Premier League to file their annual report and have already delayed publication on one occasion this year, as per Football Insider.

The Latest: Whelan stunned by accounts delay

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan – who used to play as a striker for the likes of Leeds United and Coventry City – has claimed that the reason why Newcastle have not yet submitted their accounts may be because controversial, unpopular owner Mike Ashley seems to have some ‘bitterness’ towards the Premier League, adding that they should have no reason not to submit them.

He said:

“It’s no secret that everyone wants him out as soon as possible so they can get this takeover done.

“He’s got this discrepancy with the Premier League and there seems to be some bitterness there.

“But they haven’t spent a hell of a lot so their financial situation should be pretty clear really.

“They should have nothing to hide. Maybe their financial advisor has been on holiday for a month or something like that…unbelievable.”

The Verdict: More uncertainty

With the uncertainty around the ongoing takeover saga, it certainly does not help that the Tyneside club have not submitted their accounts.

The supporters deserve more transparency about what exactly is going on at their football club, and they are simply not getting it.

A lack of activity in the summer transfer window so far is only going to cause more frustration, and so the Magpies need to act fast to try and get the fans back on their side ahead of the new 2021/22 season.

Wolves transfer update on Otasowie

Some Wolves fans have been left fuming as a transfer update emerged on Owen Otasowie.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, football journalist Tim Spiers has claimed that the Midlands club have had an offer of £3.4m on the table for the USA international from Club Brugge for more than a week, but they want a fee closer to £5m.

The Molineux faithful are pretty scarce in the central midfield position and have a pretty thin squad in general, and so letting go of another player, especially with the potential that Otasowie has, would really leave Bruno Lage short going into the new 2021/22 season.

Even £5m as well would give little room to manoeuvre in terms of trying to find an adequate replacement, and so the Wanderers might as well keep him instead.
