As things stand, the East Londoners are in the relegation zone with just one win from four games and a goal difference of negative seven.

If things don’t start to improve, and fast, the Hammers could be in real danger of losing their Premier League status come May.

It may be time for Graham Potter to be replaced, and while there is talk of Slaven Bilic taking his place, reports now suggest the club could be looking at someone who’d be even better.

West Ham target Potter and Bilic upgrade

Although it’s still early in the season, West Ham have been linked with several potential replacements for Potter.

One name that keeps coming up this week is former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who guided his former side back to European football last season.

Another name that has been consistently linked with the Hammers this month is Frank Lampard, who appears to be doing a decent enough job with Coventry City in the Championship this year.

However, another manager has now been thrown into the ring, someone who’d be a better option than Bilic: Gary O’Neil.

Yes, according to a recent report from Dean Jones, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has been “mentioned” by some at the club.

The Englishman has been out of a job for over nine months, and while he might not be the most glamorous of options, we reckon he would be an upgrade on Potter and a better choice than Bilic.

After all, the Croat achieved a higher points-per-game average in his last job than the Englishman did in his.

Well, their last jobs are, in fact, one of, if not the most important reasons, as while the former West Bromwich Albion boss’s previous role saw him manage in the Saudi Pro League, O’Neil’s saw him in charge of Wolves.

Moreover, he wasn’t just tasked with overseeing a relatively stable mid-table side; the 42-year-old was handed the incredibly challenging job of saving the Old Gold from relegation, which he did do in his first season.

On top of that, while he was let go by Bournemouth for the more exciting Andoni Iraola, he also did what genuinely seemed impossible at the time and kept them in the league when taking the reins from Scott Parker in August 2022.

Also, that isn’t some reimagining of the situation; it was a pretty standard opinion that the Cherries would be going down at the time, so much so, in fact, that the club ended up making a snarky compilation of pundits and content creators saying so at the end of the season.

So, while he has been sacked from his last two jobs, the former Bournemouth boss did incredibly well in keeping both of them in the top-flight, and remains popular among the fans of both.

In contrast, Bilic was fired from his job in the Saudi Pro League, fired by Watford before that for underachieving and then prior to that spent a year managing Beijing Guoan.

In other words, while some fans might have positive memories of him from around a decade ago, the Split-born coach has not managed at a high level for a very long time.

Finally, while re-hiring Bilic might seem like a romantic idea to some, it’s hard to think of many instances of managers returning to clubs and doing better the second time around.

Moreover, both played for the club, so the Beckenham-born boss still has that connection to West Ham that should help him get to grips with things quicker.

Ultimately, even though both managers would be upgrades on Potter, we really think the Irons would be better off hiring O’Neil.

أدلى تشابي ألونسو مدرب ريال مدريد بتصريحات عقب فوز فريقه أمام فالنسيا في الدوري الإسباني، وقيّم أداء لاعبيه وعلى رأسهم فينيسيوس جونيور وكيليان مبابي، وكشف عن قرار قبل مواجهة ليفربول.

ويتصدر ريال مدريد الدوري الإسباني بـ 30 نقطة بعد فوزه أمام فالنسيا برباعية نظيفة، وسيواجه ليفربول يوم الثلاثاء المقبل، ضمن مباريات مرحلة الدوري في بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وقال تشابي في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية: “لعبنا بتحركات كثيرة، وبتمريرات جيدة، وضغطنا بسرعة بعد فقدان الكرة، النتيجة جاءت لصالحنا وأنا سعيد جدًا”.

وأضاف: “لقد كان انتصارًا جماعيًا، الفريق لعب بشكل رائع، وبدأنا بطاقة إيجابية جدًا، اللاعبون أرادوا مواصلة الديناميكية الجيدة، لعبنا بتحركات كثيرة، وتمريرات سلسة، وضغط سريع بعد فقدان الكرة، النتيجة سارت في صالحنا وأنا سعيد للغاية”.

وعن أكثر ما يعجبه في الفريق، أفاد: “الطاقة الإيجابية، الالتزام والتضحية، الجميع يقدّم أداءً فرديًا مميزًا لخدمة الفريق، عندما لا نملك الكرة، تتولد بيننا كيمياء كبيرة، وهذا ما نبحث عنه دائمًا”.

وأردف: “لا أدري إن كانت مثالية، لكنها سارت بشكل جيد جدًا، في الشوط الثاني لعبنا بعقلانية بسبب مباراة الثلاثاء (أمام ليفربول) كنا متقدمين ومسيطرين، لذا كان علينا أن نلعب بذكاء، الأمور سارت كما خططنا، لكننا لا نريد أن نسترخي، نريد دخول كل مباراة بذهنٍ جاهز، وقد فعلنا ذلك اليوم”.

وعن أهمية العمل الدفاعي للفريق، أوضح: “الأمر أساسي، للفوز بالبطولات عليك أن تدافع جيدًا وتحافظ على نظافة شباكك في العديد من المباريات، بدأنا الدفاع من الخطوط الأمامية، وعندما تتعاون جميع الخطوط في العمل الدفاعي يصبح اللعب أكثر راحة، الجميع كان مركزًا ومترابطًا جدًا”.

وبشأن أداء كاريراس، علّق تشابي: “إنه لاعب تنافسي جدًا، يفعل كل شيء بإتقان، يظل مركزًا حتى عندما تكون الكرة بعيدة، قوي في الالتحامات، ويعرف متى يختار الخيار الصحيح، من الرائع أن يكون معنا”.

وعن كيليان مبابي الذي قدم أداءً رائعًا، وإذا كان المدرب منزعجًا من عدم تسجيله هاتريك بعد ضربة الجزاء التي أهدرها فينيسيوس، استطرد تشابي: “لقد سجل هدفين آخرين، ويحافظ على معدل تهديفي ممتاز ينافس به على الألقاب في نهاية الموسم، والأهم أننا حصلنا على ثلاث نقاط جديدة”.

وواصل مدرب ريال مدريد: “المباراة كانت متكاملة، جادة، وبطاقة رائعة، بدأنا بشكل ديناميكي، بتمريرات كثيرة وتقدمنا مبكرًا، كنا نستطيع تسجيل المزيد، لكن بشكل عام كانت مباراة مثالية تقريبًا”.

وسُئل تشابي إذا كان إنزعج من إهدار ضربة الجزاء، وأجاب: المدرب: “منزعج من إضاعتها بالتأكيد، لأنها كانت قبل الاستراحة مباشرة وكان يمكن أن تجعل النتيجة 3-0، لحسن الحظ، سجّل بيلينجهام بعدها، كان مجرد انفعال لحظي لعدم تسجيل الهدف الثالث، وانتهى الأمر”.

وإذا كان مبابي هو منفذ ركلات الجزاء الأول في ريال مدريد، رد تشابي: “هو ليس الوحيد، لكن نعم، هو الأول، أحيانًا تُتخذ قرارات داخل الملعب، ما يهمني هو أن تُسجل الركلة، كانت فرصة جيدة اليوم، لكن لا داعي للتهويل، مبابي ما زال المنفذ الأول”.

وأشاد تشابي بفالفيردي قائلاً: “نرى جميعًا مستواه، ومدى اكتماله كلاعب، بالكرة يمتلك روح لاعب الوسط، على الجانب البدني قوي جدًا، منذ بدأ اللعب في هذا المركز وهو يتحسن ويشعر بالموقع أكثر، إنه لاعب شامل بكل المقاييس”.

كما امتدح أداء لاعبه فينيسيوس جونيور في المباراة حين سُئل عن مستواه، وعلّق: “مباراة ممتازة من فينيسيوس”.

وبالنظر للمعدل التهديفي لمبابي، سُئل تشابي إذا كان من الجنون التفكير في أنه قد يصل إلى 60 أو 70 هدفًا هذا الموسم، ورد: “الوقت سيكشف، لا يمكن التنبؤ بما سيحدث خلال ستة أشهر، لكن مبابي يملك سهولة مذهلة في التسجيل، لا أعرف كم سيسجل، لكني واثق أنه سيُحرز الكثير”.

Go back just over a decade, and it was a certain Harry Kane who was given the chance to lead the line under Mauricio Pochettino. Then, just a few years after that, Dele Alli was signed from MK Dons.

At his best, the former England international was a force of nature for Spurs, and while it’s early, it looks like the North Londoners might just have another version of him on the books today.

What made Dele Alli so special

While he has unfortunately faded out of football almost entirely today, it is impossible to overstate just how special a player Dele was at his peak.

For example, in just his first season with the club, the Englishman was able to rack up a brilliant tally of ten goals and ten assists in 46 appearances.

Such a return would be impressive for a seasoned professional, but considering he was just 20 years old and had spent the prior campaign in League One, it was incredible.

Unsurprisingly, he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year, an award he’d win for a second time the following year after producing an out-of-this-world tally of 34 goal involvements in 50 appearances.

While it sounds overly simplistic, it was this sensational ability to produce goals and assists at an unimaginable rate for someone so young that made the Milton Keynes-born gem so special.

He wasn’t necessarily the best passer in the game, and sometimes could be found lacking when it came to the defensive side of things, but he was a force of nature when it came to popping up at the right time to either score or provide the final pass to someone else who’d put the ball in the back of the net.

So, unfortunately, when the goal involvements began to dry up, everything started to go wrong for the potentially world-class talent, and while he may well get back to his best, he is currently without a club.

In more positive news for Tottenham, it looks like they have an academy gem who could potentially become their new Dele in the coming years.

Meet Spurs' new Dele

There are more than a handful of truly exciting prospects in Spurs’ academy setup at the moment, but the one who stands the best chance of emulating Dele at his best is Luca Williams-Barnett.

Despite still being just 17 years old, the youngster has been a real talking point for those in the know for some time now, and when you take a look at his numbers in youth football, it’s easy to understand why.

For example, in just 23 appearances last season, totalling 1857 minutes, the Luton-born wonderkid scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists, which comes out to 1.39 goal involvements every game, or one every 58.03 minutes.

Then this season, even though he’s now primarily playing with the U21s, he has still scored eight goals and provided five assists in nine youth team appearances, totalling 716 minutes, which comes out to an average of 1.44 goal involvements per game, or one every 55.07 minutes.

In other words, the Lilywhites’ young phenom is already a goalscoring machine, but one who is also a reliable provider of assists, which certainly helps to justify analyst Ben Mattinson’s claim that he’s “one of England’s best talents.”

Moreover, the fact that he has already made his first-team debut, combined with his ability to pop up left, right, and centre with goal involvements from a young age, is undoubtedly reminiscent of Dele at his very best.

Ultimately, it’s still incredibly early in Williams-Barnett’s career, but it’s impossible to ignore just how immense a talent he already is, and his similarities to the Spurs’ former game-changer.

Salman and Nawaz combine wellDespite the departure of Haris, Salman kept going for Pakistan. He struck Tanzim and Rishad Hossain for boundaries, before Hassan Nawaz, fresh from his PSL 2025 heroics, bashed Rishad for his first six. Salman mixed his big-hitting with delicate shots, like scoops and late cuts, as Pakistan’s run rate got a big boost.In the tenth over, Salman flicked Tanzim for a six, before pasting him through point and then dabbing him past the keeper. Nawaz, meanwhile, kept the pressure on Bangladesh with a pair of sixes off Rishad and Hasan Mahmud, before the latter removed Salman with a dipping full toss. It ended a 65-run stand for the fourth wicket.Nawaz batted on for Pakistan, smashing Rishad for a six over extra-cover, followed by two more fours. Hasan wrecks Bangladesh’s chaseHasan struck his first blow when he had Parvez caught at mid-on for 4 in his first over. In his next over, Tanzid took him for a brace of fours, but the fast bowler hit back to knock him over with a knuckle ball.When Hasan returned to the attack in the 18th over, Bangladesh were 141 for 6, still needing 61 off 18 balls. Jaker was on 30 off 18 balls at that point, with his big-hitting offering Bangladesh hope. Hasan conceded a six with his first legal ball in his second spell, but bounced Jaker out next ball for 36 off 20 balls. In the same over, he had Tanzim caught and bowled for 1.In the final over, Hasan completed his five-for and dismissed Bangladesh for 164.Litton, Hridoy get stuckLitton and Towhid Hridoy had added 63 for the third wicket, but they didn’t find the tempo that could have hurt Pakistan. Hridoy managed only 17 off 22 balls, with just one four. It was his slowest knock in a T20I in which he has faced at least 20 balls.His captain also had a slow start – Litton was on 11 off 12 balls at one point – but a four off Shadab saw him break free in the eighth over. Tottenham Hotspur travel to face Leeds United in the Premier League this afternoon, looking to return to winning ways after their draw in the Champions League in midweek.

Thomas Frank will no doubt want to return to league action with a bang, after only managing to secure a 1-1 draw against struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.

However, on the whole, it’s been an impressive start to life in North London for the Dane, only suffering one defeat in his first nine matches after taking the reins in the summer.

Whilst Daniel Farke’s side are a newly-promoted outfit, they are still a side to be feared, with the Whites unbeaten in each of their last two top-flight outings.

If the Lilywhites are to have the best chance of avoiding a shock defeat at Elland Road, the manager desperately needs to drop one player who’s been extremely poor as of late.

Richarlison’s poor form in recent weeks

After scoring twice in the Premier League opener of 2025/26, there was a sense of excitement building at Spurs that Richarlison could be the man to lead the line under Frank.

While he’s managed to find the back of the net three times in his first six outings, the Brazilian has become a scapegoat in recent outings, given his lack of impact in the final third.

His recent showing against Bodo Glimt in the Champions League was arguably one of his worst of the campaign, only achieving a total of ten touches in his 90-minute performance.

Richarlison also only managed to complete two passes, whilst also losing possession five times – an average of once every two times he made contact with the ball.

The 28-year-old may have had limited opportunities, but he was also wasteful when the ball fell his way, subsequently missing one big chance and costing the Lilywhites a chance of claiming all three points.

The injury situation in attacking areas has been less than ideal for Frank, but he desperately needs to drop the Brazilian and hand one player the chance to flourish this afternoon in Yorkshire.

The player who needs to replace Richarlison against Leeds

Dominic Solanke has been Spurs’ main talisman over the last 12 months, often providing the goods within the final third before Frank’s arrival during the off-season.

The Englishman cost a club-record £65m last summer from Bournemouth and subsequently endured a solid first campaign in North London – scoring 16 goals across all competitions.

However, he’d found minutes hard to come by, only featuring for a total of 31 minutes in the Premier League, with an ankle injury preventing him from putting a consistent run together.

Another option that Frank must consider against Farke’s men is French star Mathys Tel, with the youngster needing a run of games to showcase his talents in North London.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Lilywhites, scoring three goals in his 20 appearances – but often struggled for consistency under Ange Postecoglou.

However, the hierarchy decided to fork out £30m for his signature during the off-season, with the board putting trust in the youngster to thrive in the years ahead.

Tel has only made four appearances in the Premier League this season, only one of which was from a starting position, with added minutes desperately needed to allow him to reach his full potential.

Despite his lack of action, he’s been labelled “Thierry Henry-like” by former fan-favourite Jermaine Defoe, further highlighting the talent he currently possesses.

The Englishman stated about his unbelievable ability to glide past his opponent, something which has been reflected in his tally of 67% dribble success rate in 2025/26.

He’s also averaged 0.9 crosses per 90, along with 6.9 duels per 90 won – further highlighting his impressive all-round nature within attacking areas in North London.

It may be an unpopular call, but it’s one that needs to be done to give Frank the best chance of finding out his best eleven after taking the reins a few months ago.

Such a decision could give Richarlison the time he needs to recapture his form, which in time could create healthy competition for the Lilywhites within attacking areas.
