Spurs fans shower Son Heung-Min with praise

Tottenham Hotspur fans have hailed Son Heung-Min after the South Korea international opened up on his disappointment at the club’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

Spurs dropped points again versus the Blades, meaning they have not won in the Premier League since September when they defeated Southampton 2-1.

The result leaves Spurs in 12th in the Premier League, with just 14 points. They are six points clear of the relegation zone and 12 behind both Leicester City and Chelsea.

Son scored Spurs’ goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, capitalising on a defensive mix-up to slide the ball under the goalkeeper.

And he gave an interview to the club’s Twitter account following the final whistle, expressing his disappointment at the result and appearing genuinely frustrated at another missed opportunity for the club.

And fans took to social media to sing the South Korea international’s praises.

Manchester City: Fans expose Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in Aguero debate

When it comes to statistics, Sergio Aguero appears to be miles ahead of Didier Drogba, with the Argentine having scored 80 more goals in around 30 less appearances when you compare the club records – with Manchester City supporters quickly leaping to their forward’s defence when the simple debate of ‘who is better?’ came up.

In this debate, what Drogba has going for him is his big game impact – including that famous Champions League final equaliser and winning penalty which gave the club their first ever European Cup.

As for Aguero, he has the numbers and the fact that he is City’s all-time top scorer with his fair share of big moments – one of them being that title-winning goal against QPR back in 2012.

Bearing all of that in mind, a Chelsea fan on Twitter tried to argue that the African had scored more goals against bigger sides in the league and Europe.

In response, however, a City supporter revealed stats that actually showed that Aguero, again, holds the superior numbers in that regard.

Here’s how City fans reacted to the Drogba debate.

Wolves Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell reveals their ongoing plans

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Wolves’ Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell has disclosed what the club’s ongoing plans are ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Speaking to Express & Star, he hinted that Wolves could target potential successors, rather than players who are ready to start.

What’s he said?

Wolves didn’t do too much business over the summer with the club instead opting for younger players like Pedro Neto and Meritan Shabani.

This came after an extensive period of recruitment in 2018/19 where they broke their transfer record to land Raul Jimenez while also bringing in new faces like Adama Traore, Jonny and the experienced Joao Moutinho.

Signings like that were few and far between last summer and the same looks as though it can be expected in January.

It’s previously been stated that Ruben Neves is not for sale while the possibility of signing AC Milan’s Franck Kessie has also been quashed.

Yet, speaking about the way Wolves are currently operating and what they might do in January, Thelwell said the following:

“I would not say we do not regard the opportunity to do more because we are always going to try and push for more and strengthen the group that little bit further but hopefully we can work on that and address that in the next window.

“I do not think we need a revolution at all. We have a very strong foundation, a very strong base, we have also talked about succession planning, staff and helping them grow into more senior roles.

“That is no different with players. We are succession planning all the time to make sure that we have players that are ready for if we lose somebody, or transfer somebody or if we want to support somebody.

“That is what the plan looks like.”

Mass influx isn’t needed

This speaks volumes about the shrewd operations that are happening behind the scenes at Molineux.

At first, it looked as though Wolves’ decision not to spend a huge amount last summer hadn’t paid off. They still lacked bodies and failed to win a single one of their opening seven domestic fixtures of the campaign.

But they have since bounced back, losing just one of their last 12 outings in all competitions. Despite the Europa League, Wolves have seemingly coped with their small squad.

Last season, Nuno Santo only opted to use 21 players in the top-flight. With that in mind, a mass overhaul or revolution was never going to take place given he likes to operate with a small group.

What Thelwell speaks about stems back to last summer too. Instead of targeting players who could instantly improve the first-team, they recruited individuals like Bruno Jordao, Flavio Cristovao, Renat Dadashov and Raphael Nya instead.

Only Jordao and Cristovao have been granted a chance in the senior setup so far but it shows that Wolves are planning for a brighter future, one that involves succession, rather than instant integration.

Harry Maguire’s post has Jesse Lingard making excuses

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has posted a video of himself doing the #HomeTopBinChallenge on his

The England international was nominated by singer and United fan Olly Murs, who had a pretty impressive attempt of his own, as he kicked it into a black bin from range.

Maguire took two almost identical shots that were both sent flying into the top-right corner of the net, showing the precision in his strike.

The 27-year-old has scored two goals for the Red Devils this season, against Chelsea and Tranmere Rovers, and nominated Jesse Lingard to take part among others.

The midfielder, who has the same amount, having scored against Tranmere and FC Astana, has made an excuse though, claiming he doesn’t have a goal at his house.

Lingard got creative for the #StayAtHome challenge, and his teammate has urged him to do so again by taking inspiration from Murs.

Everton can’t afford to miss out on Mario Gotze to AS Roma

Having only arrived in mid-season, Carlo Ancelotti will no doubt be looking to this upcoming summer transfer window as his first major opportunity to strengthen his Everton squad at Goodison Park.

The Italian oversaw a largely low-key window in January, but the summer should open up a lot more doors for the Toffees to go after some of their priority targets.

And one man who has been linked with a move to the blue half of Merseyside in recent weeks and months has been Borussia Dortmund play-maker Mario Gotze.

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

But according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via The Daily Mail), AS Roma have joined the list of clubs who are targeting a move for the German as he looks set to leave the Bundesliga when his contract expires this summer.

The report claims that Gotze’s agent has already held discussions with Roma director Gianluca Petrachi, and that the 27-year-old remains keen on staying in Europe.

Whilst Gotze may not be the same player that was a key part of the successful Jurgen Klopp-led Dortmund side – injuries have been a key reason behind that – he still represents the calibre of performer that could be a huge step-up on what Ancelotti currently has at his disposal.

Last season showed that there is still something there to work with and potentially revive, with seven goals and seven assists in just 26 games in the Bundesliga.

It says a lot about the lack of real quality in that number ten role, that Everton’s top-scoring midfielder this year is Tom Davies with just two – Gylfi Sigurdsson, the man who Gotze would surely replace in the first-team, has also managed just two, whilst only providing two assists.

Gotze could provide a bit of creativity and magic to Ancelotti’s side, and really allow Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison the chance to thrive up front. His career average of 1.6 key passes per game shows he has the ability to unlock defences, and it’s exactly why the Toffees and Marcel Brands can’t afford to miss out on his signature to Roma.

Sigurdsson’s woeful record of just 14 assists in 103 games for the Merseyside outfit has really hampered the Toffees going forward. Gotze could help address that immediately.

Meanwhile, Everton fans have reacted to this Richarlison tweet.

Celtic signing Patrick Roberts permanently would be great business

Having spent some time on loan at Celtic a couple of years ago, Patrick Roberts will know all about trying to make a name for himself in Scottish football.

The 23-year-old has been on the books at Manchester City for a considerable amount of time since his move from Fulham, but has never really made the grade at the Etihad.

It’s seen him spend numerous campaigns out on loan, but arguably his most successful one came during his time at Celtic Park. And with reports suggesting that Neil Lennon’s side have made a new approach to take Roberts back, but this time on a permanent basis, this is a move that could work out for all parties.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The pint-sized winger originally spent 18 months with the Hoops on loan, before returning on another season-long deal back in the summer of 2017. His first campaign at the club saw him net six times in just 11 league games, before he really took it to another level the following season.

He scored an impressive nine goals and provided a whopping 14 assists in the Scottish top-flight as Celtic continued their domestic dominance, but ever since then, his career has rather declined. His final season with Celtic saw him feature just eight times in the league, before enduring nightmare spells at the likes of Girona, Norwich and Middlesbrough.

But having seen first-hand what he can bring to the table when given a consistent run of games, Roberts is surely worth a punt now by Peter Lawwell. His ability to play anywhere across the front-line would make him a valuable piece of the jigsaw for Celtic, and he could offer real creativity from out wide what with his assists record.

He wouldn’t need any time to settle back in considering he will surely know the club inside out, particularly with the on-the-pitch demands. Club icon Davie Hay waxed lyrical about Roberts’ abilities, and even backed a potential move for him last summer.

He said: “He did exceptionally well at Celtic in his spell up in Scotland and he is still young at 22. he really enjoyed his time up here and I’m sure the player himself would be open to the possibility of a return. His second season wasn’t as successful as his first, but he got an injury and then the form of James Forrest meant that he couldn’t get back into the team regularly.”

With Forrest set to turn 29 in July, Celtic would do well to start thinking about who could be ready to take the mantle from him on that right flank. Returning for Roberts would give them someone who has played with him before, and could eventually take over from him too.

Quiz: West Ham United – The Ultimate Boys of ’86 Quiz

The 1985/1986 season is celebrated at West Ham as being one of the best campaigns of the club’s existence.

Having finished 16th in the First Division the season before, John Lyall’s Hammers were not expected to compete in the way that they did, as they mounted a serious title challenge alongside Liverpool and Everton, which went down to the penultimate weekend of the season.

It was a title bad akin to Leicester City’s in 2015/2016, although West Ham were unable to do what the Foxes did and end the season as Champions. However, it remains a fond memory for the fans who experienced that season and the players who made it happen.

That squad, which included the likes of Tony Cottee, Frank McAvennie, Tony Gale, Alvin Martin and Alan Devonshire, are often invited back to the club as guests of honour and will forever be known as ‘The Boys of ’86.’

But how much do you remember of that season? Or, if you’re too young to remember it, how much do you know about one of the best seasons in West Ham’s great history?

Spurs fans react as Arkadiusz Milik reports emerge

Tottenham Hotspur failed to land themselves a new striker during the January transfer window, but might that change this summer?

Fresh reports have emerged that suggest that to be the case and fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

According to Nicolo Schira, Spurs continue to hold interest in Napoli frontman Arkadiusz Milik with the Pole looking to leave the Serie A outfit at the end of the season.

It’s claimed that the 26-year-old isn’t willing to extend his contract in Naples with it set to expire in a year’s time.

Milik has only featured in 22 matches this term but has managed to find the net 12 times, which includes a hat-trick in the Champions League, via Transfermarkt.

There’s no denying that Jose Mourinho’s side desperately needed a backup to Harry Kane as they have suffered ever since the England skipper went down on New Year’s Day, crashing out of all cup competitions and sinking seven points adrift of the top four.

But could the £28.8m-rated star be the man to fill that void? The Spurs faithful are rather torn – here’s what has been said so far…

Liverpool fans divided by Ousmane Dembele transfer report

A recent transfer report has divided Liverpool supporters on social media this week.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Reds have submitted an offer for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele which is a loan that comes with an option to buy.

Many at Anfield believe this would be a superb move with some left drooling by the prospect of Jurgen Klopp working his magic on the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old previously broke through at Borussia Dortmund under the German boss, resulting in a big-money move, thought to be around £135.5m, to La Liga giants Barcelona.

This season, Dembele has played just nine times in all competitions due to an ongoing hamstring problem, which may give a reason to why he could potentially be available.

However, several members of the Reds faithful have used this to suggest why he must be avoided this summer.

Some fans also hinted towards his attitude as a reason to why he’d be a bad addition at Liverpool.

As a result of his injuries and reported attitude problems, there were a couple of comparisons made to former Liverpool players such as Mario Ballotelli and Daniel Sturridge.

Many in Merseyside are desperate to see the addition of Timo Werner, and one supporter claims a move for Dembele would curtail their pursuit of the RB Leipzig talisman and that he could even be a replacement for Mo Salah – even though the 27-year-old is under contract until 2023.

It remains to be seen if this story has any legs whatsoever, but you’d imagine it would be very hard for any attacking player to break into the starting XI given the impressive form of Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in recent months.

Spurs foolish to snub Aaron Ramsey/Tanguy Ndombele swap

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have snubbed the chance to swap Tanguy Ndombele with Aaron Ramsey.

What’s the word?

Ndombele has endured a difficult debut campaign in north London, with injuries restricting to him just 20 appearances in the Premier League.

And with Jose Mourinho airing his frustrations with the midfielder in public, there has been major speculation that he could be set for a departure from Spurs this summer.

However, The Telegraph now claim that the Lilywhites have turned down an approach from Juventus that would have seen Aaron Ramsey join Spurs, and Ndombele head to Italy.

Foolish

Whilst Ramsey’s previous history with Arsenal may have made this move slightly unpopular with sections of the Spurs support, there can be no question that the Welshman proved in his time in the Premier League that he is a premiere goal-scoring midfielder.

The 29-year-old struck 65 times in 371 total games for the Gunners, and he came up with some big goals in some big games too – two FA Cup final winning strikes against Hull and Chelsea respectively are testament to that.

Hailed as an “outstanding technician” by Martin Keown, the £25.2m-rated ace would have given Mourinho’s side an added goal-scoring option from the middle of the park and taken some of the load off the shoulders of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

A proven Premier League player, he would have had no problem adapting to life back in English football, unlike Ndombele, and it’s why Mourinho may have made a foolish decision to pass up on the swap off.
