Canterbury, Auckland register wins

Canterbury won a close game against Central Districts at Saxton Oval in Nelson to earn eight points and join Wellington, Auckland and Northern Districts at the top of the points table

ESPNcricinfo staff10-Dec-2010Canterbury won a close game against Central Districts at Saxton Oval in Nelson, to earn eight points and join Wellington, Auckland and Northern Districts at the top of the points table.Canterbury won the toss and chose to bat and got off to a solid start with Peter Fulton and Rob Nicol adding 68 for the first wicket in the first nine overs before Fulton was dismissed. George Worker and Seth Rance struck in quick succession, and at 99 for 3, Canterbury looked like they had frittered away a good start. Shannan Stewart and Ryan ten Doeschate then put on 37 for the fourth wicket to stabilise the innings. However, once Stewart was dismissed with the score on 136, Canterbury suffered a collapse as they lost four wickets – that included two run-outs and two wickets to medium-pacer Adam Milne – for just 11 runs, to reach 147 for 8 in their 20 overs.Central Districts’ chase started disastrously as Peter Ingram was dismissed off the very first ball by Richard Sherlock. However, Worker and Mathew Sinclair played solidly as they added 111 for the second wicket, and at 111 for 1, Central Districts looked well on their way to registering their second win of the tournament, needing 36 in four overs. Allrounder ten Doeschate got Canterbury right back in the game as he picked up Worker and Sinclair in the 17th over. Sherlock struck to pick up Michael Yardy in the 18th over. This was followed by two run-outs and Central Districts’ chase was effectively derailed, as they fell six runs short of their target to hand Canterbury their second successive win.Auckland beat Otago by 8 runs, via the D/L method, in a rain-affected game at Queen’s Park in Invercargill.Otago won the toss and chose to field under overcast conditions but it was Auckland who got off to a blistering start as Colin de Grandhomme and Jimmy Adams blasted 19 runs off the first five balls of the innings. Seamer Darren Stevens had his revenge as he dismissed de Grandhomme off the final ball of the over. Stevens and Ian Butler, though, combined to pick up three wickets between them, as Auckland stumbled to 81 for 6 and looked in danger of being bowled out for a below-par total. However, Colin Munro (66*) combined with the lower order to haul Auckland out of trouble. Munro added 41 for the seventh wicket with Bradley Cachopa (25) and 48 for the eight wicket with Roneel Hira (15), to power Auckland to 175 for 8 in their 20 overs.Otago started their chase positively with Aaron Redmond and Hamish Rutherford adding 43 runs in the first six overs. However, 43 for no loss soon became 43 for 2 as Rutherford and Redmond were dismissed off successive deliveries. Otago captain Craig Cumming and Stevens set about getting the chase on track. They added 72 for the third wicket in just under nine overs, and at 116 for 3, with Cumming still unbeaten on a fluent 44, a close finish looked in store; Otago needed 60 runs off the last five overs with seven wickets in hand. However, heavy rain intervened and no further play was possible. Based on the D/L method, Otago were 9 runs short of the target (125) at that point. Auckland picked up four points while Otago continued their winless run.

Rajasthan pick four as franchises focus on Ranji final

Rajasthan Royals have picked four players from the Rajasthan Ranji squad as a part of their uncapped basket. Aakash Chopra is the most prominent name among the pickings

Nagraj Gollapudi and Abhishek Purohit11-Jan-2011Rajasthan Royals have picked four players from the Rajasthan Ranji squad and Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane as a part of their uncapped basket. Aakash Chopra is the most prominent name among the Rajasthan players signed with the other three being middle-order batsman Ashok Menaria, seamer Deepak Chahar and wicketkeeper Dishant Harendra Yagnik. Along with Chopra, who moved to Rajasthan as a professional from his home state of Delhi this season, both Menaria and Chahar’s spectacular performances helped Rajasthan reach the Ranji Trophy final after 36 years.Rahane has been a prolific scorer in domestic cricket, and averages 69.01 from 47 first-class games, and 40.41 from 43 List A matches. He was a crucial factor in Mumbai’s 38th and 39th Ranji title wins, making 1089 and 809 runs.”We are pretty happy with what we have got,” Sean Morris, the Rajasthan franchise’s CEO, said. Morris also explained how Chopra, a former India Test opener, was an uncapped player. “According to the IPL rules if a player has not played for India in the last five seasons he automatically becomes uncapped,” he said. Chopra, who played the first two IPL seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders, confirmed the development.Meanwhile Rajasthan’s Ranji captain Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been approached by Kochi. “We are talking to him,” Mehul Shah, one of the Kochi owners said. It is also understood that Pune Warriors have come to an agreement with Kamran Khan, the left-arm fast bowler who played for Rajasthan in the second IPL, but was sent back midway during the campaign to correct his action, which was found to be questionable.Kolkata Knightriders have sent in “10-12” requests to IPL for players they would be interested in. Royal Challengers Bangalore were negotiating with hometown boy Mayank Agarwal, who was part of the India Under-19 World Cup team last year. The Baroda Ranji side has attracted attention as well, with captain Pinal Shah, left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt, allrounder Swapnil Singh, batsman Kedar Devdhar and seamer Murtuja Vahora said to be in advanced stages of discussions with some franchises. Two days after the auction, all ten franchises have been frantically hunting for quality uncapped players, a scarce commodity in Indian cricket. Various team owners rushed to Baroda hours after the weekend auction to woo players like Ambati Rayudu, one of the performers in IPL 2010 and a vital part of Mumbai Indians’ run to the final. The buzz at the Moti Bagh ground was in contrast to the Ranji semi-final, which was played at the Reliance Stadium in Baroda, watched mostly by journalists, a handful of spectators, and a few stray dogs. Not that the cricket so far has been attractive enough to drive fans to the ground, but the rush among the IPL franchises to sign uncapped domestic players suddenly turned the spotlight on a domestic match.Siddhartha Mallya, owner of Bangalore, checked in on Monday morning as teams were getting ready for the final net season before the final day. While Mallya was one of the early IPL birds to arrive in Vadodara, there are reports that many more are headed to the city which is home to Chirayu Amin, head of the IPL governing council, and also the president of the Baroda Cricket Association. Among those expected to arrive tomorrow are Manoj Badale, co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals, Ness Wadia, co-owner of the Kings XI Punjab, and Geoff Lawson, coach of the Kochi team. Amin himself was at the ground today, and apparently it was one of the extremely rare occasions on which the president has been seen at a domestic match in Vadodara.

Spurs: Gold shares promising Eriksen update

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent and reliable source Alasdair Gold has shared a promising update on the club’s links to former hero Christian Eriksen.

The Lowdown: Lilywhites eye reunion?

Spurs are believed to be one of many clubs considering a Bosman move for the Denmark international, who has been shining across London with Brentford.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 30-year-old, after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch during last year’s Euro 2020, throwing his playing career into doubt, has since took to the grass again under Thomas Frank and made a real contribution.

Eriksen has been one of the Premier League fairy-tale stories of 2022 with Gold now sharing an update on Tottenham’s links to re-signing their ex-playmaker star.

The Latest: Gold drops promising update…

Speaking in a football.london Q&A, the journalist claims that Eriksen could now be open to joining Spurs this summer.

He explained: “As a free agent he’ll have plenty of interest this summer. I’m told that while he didn’t depart Spurs on the best of terms with the Tottenham hierarchy, he still loves the club and his preference is believed to be to remain in London.

“It’s whether the Dane feels that he should show some loyalty to Brentford for bringing him back into the game or whether the pull of playing for Conte again and Tottenham, where he would be a good fit back in the Italian’s 3-5-2, is more enticing.”

The Verdict: Ideal for Conte?

Lilywhites manager Antonio Conte allegedly has eye on as many as six major summer signings, including two midfielders (The Telegraph), so transfer chief Fabio Paratici may well need to turn to the Bosman market.

Signing Eriksen on a free deal would be an astute move, not just for the romantic aspect of his return, but also because he is a proven Premier League creator.

Having shined at Spurs for years before leaving for Inter Milan in 2020, he has picked up right where he left off in England with Brentford, with teammate Pontus Jansson even calling him a ‘superstar’.

He could well be the ideal signing for Conte and some supporters may be hoping that Eriksen is indeed tempted to return.

Newcastle eye Man Utd midfielder Lingard

Newcastle United have reportedly now ‘made their first move’ to sign Jesse Lingard in the summer.

The Lowdown: Out of contract

Lingard is out of contract in the summer, with no plans of renewal from both him or Manchester United after a January full of speculation which saw him linked with the likes of Newcastle and West Ham.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-6/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Currently rated at £18m by Transfermarkt, whoever now manages to win the race and snap him up as a free agent would be saving themselves a lot of money.

The Latest: Newcastle move

Taking to Twitter, Magpies journalist Scott Wilson has revealed that the St. James’ Park faithful have now ‘made their first move’ with regards to signing up Lingard this summer:

“NUFC have made their first move to set up a summer deal for Jesse Lingard – but are anticipating intense competition for the soon-to-be free agent…” The Verdict: No-brainer

If they could bring Lingard to the North East on a free, it is surely a no-brainer for the Tynesiders.

The 29-year-old may not have had much game time at Old Trafford this season, but he certainly showed his credentials while on loan with David Moyes at West Ham United last term.

Winning plaudits everywhere, Lingard scored a very impressive nine goals and made a further five assists from midfield in 16 games in the Premier League (Transfermarkt), despite only joining in the January transfer window.

Not all of the Toon’s signings have to be expensive ones this summer, and signing up Lingard as a free agent would certainly seem like a smart move to help build up Eddie Howe’s squad for the next campaign.

Pinal, Yadav star on hard-fought day

Rajasthan’s bowlers plugged away relentlessly at Baroda’s batsmen, and despite three half-centuries, the hosts were still trailing by 70 at stumps

The Bulletin by Abhishek Purohit at Moti Bagh13-Jan-2011
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsLegspinner Vivek Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan•ESPNcricinfo LtdRajasthan’s bowlers plugged away relentlessly at Baroda’s batsmen, creating pressure through tight lines, and despite three half-centuries, the hosts were still trailing by 70 at stumps on the third day on a Moti Bagh wicket that played better than it did on Wednesday.Vivek Yadav persisted around off stump with his legbreaks, and though he did not get the sharp turn that the Baroda spinners had generated, his accuracy forced the inexperienced batsmen into mistakes. Jaykishan Kolsawala and Kedar Devdhar had begun positively, but Yadav came on in the eighth over of the day and the runs dried up. He bowled seven overs by the first drinks break, conceding just nine runs, and removed Kolsawala and Devdhar. They were harmless deliveries, but considering how the batsmen had been tied down, it was inevitable in a way that they succumbed to them. Kolsawala fished way outside off to a ball that was angled across him, and Devdhar looked to cut a half-tracker without much feet movement, and the inside edge rattled the stumps. Baroda had slipped from 110 for 1 to 113 for 3, and the onus was now on their big signing, Ambati Rayudu, to deliver.Rayudu was looking alright, and showed his class with two elegant cover-drives when the spinners pitched marginally fuller. But Deepak Chahar – who has been wearing a strap around his right arm throughout this game – came on six overs before lunch, and trapped Rayudu leg-before with his third delivery, which straightened after angling in on middle. It looked a marginal call, as Rayudu was struck on the thigh pad, but the fact that he was caught on the back foot, and was hit on the back leg, would have played on the umpire’s mind. Rayudu had been the beneficiary of a marginal decision a couple of overs ago, when Yadav hit the non-striker’s stumps from mid-on with the batsman struggling to make his ground. One replay showed his bat was just on the crease, while one from another angle showed Rayudu had just made his ground. The third umpire had then ruled in favour of Rayudu, but his eventual dismissal meant captain Pinal Shah was left alone to guide the remaining batsmen.Pinal fought back admirably in the company of Aditya Waghmode, who was playing his second first-class innings. Both didn’t make the mistake that Kolsawala and Devdhar had, and used their feet against the spinners to regularly pick up the singles. Waghmode was especially quick to put the loose deliveries away, flicking and slog-sweeping the spinners for boundaries. At the other end, Pinal was stepping out and lifting them over midwicket and long-on. The momentum seemed to be shifting as the pair added 90 runs at just under four an over, but Waghmode’s impatience after reaching his half-century brought about his downfall. He looked to whack Yadav through extra cover but was superbly snapped up by Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who dived to take a low catch.Rajasthan took the new ball, and the lower order needed to support Pinal, who was now looking to score off almost every delivery. But Swapnil Singh went for an injudicious pull off Pankaj Singh to be caught brilliantly by Vineet Saxena at extra-cover, who held on despite colliding with Yadav, running in from mid-off. Chahar was striving for impact from the other end, and getting some movement with the new ball. He soon removed Abhijit Karambelkar, and then got the big wicket of Pinal who walked across, looking to play the ball square, but was caught plumb in front.Murtuja Vahora and Sankalp Vohra showed the track did not hold much danger, with an unbeaten 36-run ninth-wicket stand, but Rajasthan need only two good deliveries tomorrow to take the lead, which could well prove decisive.

Injured Ponting gets through net session

Ricky Ponting is hopeful he will be fit for Australia’s practice games at the World Cup, after he batted in the nets for the first time since having surgery on his little finger

ESPNcricinfo staff02-Feb-2011Ricky Ponting is hopeful he will be fit for Australia’s practice games at the World Cup, after he batted in the nets for the first time since having surgery on his little finger. Ponting took throw-downs from Australia’s batting coach Justin Langer at the SCG on Tuesday and reported no major trouble with his finger.”I’m not too bad, probably better than expected, to tell you the truth,” Ponting told the . “I started off with soft balls and plastic balls to get the feel of the bat back in my hand again, and the only ones that hurt a lot were where the bat was twisting in my hand a bit. But I’m pretty happy with how the day went.”Ponting suffered the break to the little finger on his left hand during the Perth Ashes Test and he also played the next game at the MCG, where he aggravated the problem. He sat out of the Sydney match – the first Test he had missed since 2004 – and had an operation, with the aim of ensuring he could lead Australia’s World Cup defence. The team flies out to India next week and the first warm-up match is against India in Bangalore on February 13, before a final practice game against South Africa two days later. Those outings are likely to mark Ponting’s return, and he said there was no chance he would risk a comeback in the last ODI against England at the WACA on Sunday.”I think Perth is unlikely,” he said. “Today was my first hit, and I don’t think Don Bradman could go into a game having a month off with only one or two training sessions under his belt. I’ll keep progressing slowly. There’s no great rush. I don’t want to be silly about it and hurt it. I’ll do what the physio allows me to do the next couple of weeks. The practice games are realistic for me if things keep progressing well.”Ponting is one of several batsmen in the Australian camp to have injury concerns, with Michael Hussey’s chances of reaching the World Cup still unclear after he had surgery on a serious hamstring injury. The likely replacement if Hussey is unavailable would be Shaun Marsh, although he is also battling a hamstring problem.

Leeds: Owen Bray on trial at Barnsley

Leeds United midfielder Owen Bray is thought to be on trial at Barnsley ahead of a possible summer move, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Wigan offer?

Bray is set to quit Elland Road over the coming weeks when his contract expires at the end of the season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-2/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 19-year-old headed to Wigan Athletic last month and seemingly impressed, with reports suggesting the League One title winners were readying an offer for Bray.

However, Bray, who has played seven times for the Leeds’ U18s and U23s, has now made the 25-mile trip from Thorp Arch to Barnsley.

The Latest: Source shares twist

FI shared a story on Wednesday regarding Bray after being informed by a recruitment source. They claimed that the midfielder has now made the short trip to Barnsley for a trial in what is a transfer twist following the seriousness of the links to Wigan.

Bray turned out for Barnsley’s U23s on Tuesday against Watford, with the Tykes now weighing up a summer move for his services.

The Verdict: Correct call to move on

Bray hasn’t featured for the U23s this season and is up against the likes of Lewis Bate, Sean McGurk and Jack Jenkins for a midfield spot under Andrew Taylor.

The Whites are well-stocked when it comes to exciting young midfielders, so it does appear to make sense for all involved to allow Bray to move on.

It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up, but with Barnsley dropping into the third tier, a chance at first-team football could be more likely at Oakwell over The DW Stadium.

West Indies coach slams 'ridiculous' ICC statement

Ottis Gibson, the West Indies coach, has said it was “ridiculous” for ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat to dismiss the stone-throwing incident involving the West Indies team bus as minor.

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Mar-2011Ottis Gibson, the West Indies coach, has said it was “ridiculous” for ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat to dismiss the stone-throwing incident involving the West Indies team bus as minor.”I just want to make it clear first of all and remind Haroon Lorgat of his responsibility,” Gibson said. “He can’t sit in a hotel room in Chennai and say they were pebbles. What we heard hitting the bus and smashing glass didn’t seem to us to be pebbles. So it is not fair to make a statement like that. We as management of West Indies team here believe that was a ridiculous statement to make.”The bus carrying the West Indies players was stoned on its way back to the team hotel after they thrashed Bangladesh by nine wickets in Mirpur on Friday. The Bangladesh bus was also stoned, as was Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan’s house. The day after the incident, Lorgat spoke in Chennai and played down the episode, saying it was only a few individuals that had thrown pebbles at the bus.West Indies arrived in Chandigarh yesterday and reports that security has been stepped up at Hotel Taj Palace, which is where the team is staying ahead of their game against Ireland in Mohali on March 11.Gibson elaborated on how events unfolded from the perspective of the team inside the bus. “We were in the bus and enjoying ourselves after the win. Some [fans] were taking pictures outside. We saw a hell lot of people…Suddenly stones were thrown at our bus and couple of windows smashed. The glass broke, but it did not shatter and no rock came inside. No player suffered injury. Most of us ducked down on the floor of the bus.”He also said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board president had apologised to the West Indies team management immediately after the incident and that the team was now focused on their next game. “The players are looking to move on and looking forward to play their next game at Mohali. We don’t want to make a big thing out of it. But at the same time, to us, it wasn’t a minor incident like Mr Lorgat was trying to say. Lorgat has the responsibility to be careful to what he says in this situation.”

Clarke named captain for Bangladesh tour

Michael Clarke will lead his predecessor Ricky Ponting and a little-changed touring party to Bangladesh for three limited overs matches

Daniel Brettig30-Mar-2011Michael Clarke will lead his predecessor Ricky Ponting and a little-changed touring party to Bangladesh for three limited overs matches after being officially named Australia’s new captain on Wednesday. Clarke will captain Australia in Tests and ODIs, while Cameron White continues as national Twenty20 captain. There was no surprise at the sight of Clarke suited up at the SCG for the announcement, taking on the mantle that he has waited patiently for over a lengthy tenure as vice-captain. “It is a great honour to be appointed captain of Australia but at the same time a great surprise as I wasn’t expecting Ricky Ponting to stand down,” Clarke said. “I have always respected those who have come before me in this role and humbled to think of my name being mentioned alongside theirs.”It did not take long for the matter of Clarke’s popularity to be raised, given another raft of public polls that confirmed he was far from the public’s stand-out choice as leader.”I don’t know exactly why it’s there, but it is and it has probably been there over the whole of my career,” he said. “Hopefully I can earn the respect of the doubters who are out there. No doubt it’s about how I conduct myself on and off the field, I need to continue to be true to myself, and people are entitled to their own opinion but it is important I do everything in the interests of the team, and try to do everything I can to be the best captain I can possibly be.”I don’t sit here and believe I can get the whole of this country to like me, people are always going to have their own views, but for me it’s about respect, it’s about earning that respect, leading the team in the right way, playing cricket in the right manner.”Shane Watson will be the new vice-captain under Clarke. Xavier Doherty has replaced Jason Kejza as the lead spinner in the squad, while James Pattinson has been recalled in place of the retired Shaun Tait. David Hussey is unable to tour due to the imminent birth of his first child.Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said in a statement that Doherty deserved his spot in side. “Xavier was not considered for the ICC Cricket World Cup because of a nagging back injury. Jason bowled well in the World Cup, but now Xavier has recovered from injury he deserves to come back into the squad.”He also said that Watson has been earmarked as a player with leadership potential. “Shane Watson is a critical player for Australia’s future and has been identified over the last 12-18 months as someone with leadership potential and we are sure Shane will relish the challenge of being a part of the leadership group needed to guide Australia through this exciting but challenging time.”Clarke said the Bangladesh tour would allow him to strike the right balance in his changed relationship with Ponting, laughing off suggestions the former leader was “the elephant in the room”.”I certainly don’t think Ricky’s any elephant in any room,” Clarke said. “He’s been an amazing player for a long time and I think Bangladesh is going to be a great test for that, to see how it all unfolds. I know he will allow me to do my job to the best of my ability. I have a very good working relationship with Punter and I’m confident that if he can continue to play as well as he has done for such a long time, I’m certain it can work.”While Clarke will have the final call on the batting order whenever he leads, he forecast a summit with Ponting, vice-captain Watson, chairman of selectors Hilditch and coach Tim Nielsen about where the former skipper would bat in Tests.”I think we have a great opportunity after these three one dayers in Bangladesh to sit down and have a look at our Test cricket and one day cricket and work that out,” Clarke said. “In these one dayers coming up I don’t see any reason why Ricky Ponting won’t bat at No.3, his last game for Australia he scored a hundred, he’s had an amazing career batting at No.3.”I certainly don’t think that’ll change in these three one day matches, and then we can sit down and have that conversation and assess when we get back.”Squad: Michael Clarke (capt), Shane Watson, Brad Haddin (wk), Ricky Ponting, Cameron White, Mike Hussey, Callum Ferguson, Tim Paine (wk), Steve Smith, Mitchell Johnson, John Hastings, Brett Lee, Xavier Doherty, James Pattinson.

Chopra carries on his indomitable form

01-May-2011
Scorecard
Varun Chopra continued his prolific start to the season as Warwickshire beatLeicestershire by nine runs to register their first Clydesdale Bank 40 victorysince winning the trophy at Lord’s last September. The former Essex opener made 115 from 110 balls as the holders piled up 294 for5 – 27 short of their record 40-over score in the corresponding fixture lastMay – and overcame James Taylor’s 101 in restricting Leicestershire to 285 for7.Not content with two double-centuries in the County Championship, Chopracompiled his first limited-overs hundred for Warwickshire and comfortablysurpassed his previous one-day best of 102 for Essex against Middlesex in 2007.Now in the form of his life after an injury-interrupted first season in themidlands, he systematically dissected the bowling, reaching his 50 with sixboundaries and then adding one more four and three sixes before he was dismissedin 37th over.Having survived one sketchy shot over mid-on off Alex Wyatt early in hisinnings, he completed his century before Wayne White misjudged a clear-cutchance at deep mid-wicket off Nadeem Malik.Leicestershire often looked ragged in the field as Warwickshire turned up theheat after a routine start in which William Porterfield (32) was the morepositive of the openers until he dragged White’s fourth delivery to shortmid-wicket.Chopra gathered momentum in a partnership of 116 with Mohammad Yousuf. The twobatsmen matched other, run for run, until Yousuf (56) failed to clear deepsquare leg and gave the unusually expensive Claude Henderson his only success ineight overs costing 70 runs.Chopra was finally caught at long-on off White and Rikki Clarke, having hit twosixes in a quick-fire 39, was bowled by Matthew Hoggard.Josh Cobb (40) and Jacques Du Toit (39) gave the Foxes a solid platform andMathew Boyce stepped up the pace with 48 from 31 balls in a partnership of 78 in7.4 overs with the resourceful Taylor. They plundered 35 in two overs from Keith Barker during the second battingpowerplay, and when Boyce was caught at mid-on – a second wicket forLoughborough University off-spinner Maurice Holmes – Taylor went on to hiscentury in 85 deliveries. The England Lions batsman, who managed only eight boundaries in a perfectlypaced innings, was bowled next ball by Chris Woakes.Leicestershire then needed 26 from the last two overs but fell short despiteWhite’s six off Woakes in reaching 29 not out.
